EDWARDSVILLE. May meeting of the board of directors ot the Business and Professional Club was held Wednesday evening at the Qerke building. In the absence, of the president, Miss Katherfno Hack, vice president, was in charge. An invitation to visit the Otwell Iris Fields at Carllnvillc was received. The field covers 25 acres of land and the iris are generally in full bloom the second week in May.

A number of members were delegated to the state convention In Decatur held this Friday and Saturday. The regular dinner meeting will be held at Card's Three-Mile house next Wednesday evening, at which lime election of officers will be held. Elizabeth Barnsback issued an invitation to the club to hold the June meeting at her country estate, "Stone Aldcn," on the bluffs, near the Mississippi river. State Officer to Speak at Official Banquet' WOOD RIVER, May 7. F. J. Manning, city attorney, explained to the Wood River Chamber of Commerce Wednesday the procecd- ure necessary for the establishment of a city court here The Chamber of Commerce present Is considering the promotion of such a project as a convenience to local residents. Manning explained that a population of 3000 was held necessary for a city court under Illinois statutes.

The proceedure prescribed in the statutes calls for passing of an ordinance, subject to a referendum, establishing the courts. In case the referendum carried, a second election for a Judge and clerk would be held, he explained. The Chamber of Commerce requesting Manning to make a survey of the city courts in Alton and Granite City to learn the expense and income from them. Prom this survey the Chamber hopes to determine whether the court would be feasible for Wood River. Later In the meeting plans were discussed for the dinner to be given Wednesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.
