INTERNATIONAL NEWS British grandmaster John Nunn won the traditional tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Holland, scoring 8-5. Ulf Andersson of Sweden and Lajos Portisch of Hungary shared second place with 7W-5Vi. The lone American entrant, Maxim Dlu-gy of New Jersey, tied for fourth at 7-6 with Mikhail Gurevich of the Soviet Union and Margeir Petursson of Iceland. Two of the pre-tournament favorites, Victor Korchnoi of Switzerland and Nigel Short of England, managed only even scores. In the concurrent masters tournament, John Fedorowicz of New York took clear first with 9-2, 1V4 points ahead of the field.

The three Polgar sisters competed. Judith, the youngest, tied for third with 614-414, while Zsuzsa had 5V4-5V4, and Zsofia scored 5-6. Fedorowicz earned an invitation to the premier event next year.
