4B Aug. 8, 1979 Philadelphia Inquirer Death Notices Death Notices Death Notices sir r- a- -i 1 Objtuaries Thomas G. Conley, 77, ex-banker Thomas G. Conley, 77, a retired bank official, died Monday in Chestnut Hill Hospital. He lived in Chestnut Hill.

Mr. Conley retired in 1966 after serving 20 years as an estate planning officer for First Pennsylvania Bank. After he retired, Mr. Conley traveled extensively. He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Conley was graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in mining engineering. After a short time working in the construction business in Pittsburgh, he became an engineer for Wheeling Steel manufacturers of bank vaults. He worked for the company until the Depression. Mr.

Conley was active in the Lehigh Club here and had served for many years as president of the Class of 1924. He was a member of the Union League and past secretary-treasurer and a board member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Malley Conley; a stepson, Charles Lee Tucker; a stepdaughter, Pamela T. Whelan, and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday at Our Mother of Consolation Church, East Chestnut Hill Avenue. Interment will be private. S. Frank Laveson S. Frank Laveson, 76, a center city attorney for more than 50 years, died Monday at his home, Coventry House Apartments, Melrose Park.

Miss Gandy, 58, was expected to benefit from a quiet campaign in which name recognition counted heavily. She is a former state representative, state treasurer, welfare commissioner and insurance commissioner. Many polls indicated that she would lead the first primary voting and win a spot in the Aug.

Because most of the 2,168 precincts still use paper ballots, and there were numerous local and state offices on the ticket, officials expected slow returns. 1 The winner of the Nov. 6 general election will succeed Democratic Gov. Cliff Finch, who was barred by the state Constitution from serving two successive terms. Miss Gandy, a native of Hatties-burg, began her career as an aide to the late Sen.

Theo G. Bilbo Miss.) in the 1940s. Her only major loss was in the 1963 lieutenant governor's race to the late Carroll Gartin. Winter, 56, served three terms In. the state House from Grenada County.

He was later elected state tax collector, treasurer and lieutenant governor. He led Democratic first primary voting for governor in 1967 and 1975, then lost runoffs. Eaves, 44, a native of Louisville, finished a distant fourth in the 1975 governor's race, while Herring, 40, was a strong third in the lieutenant governor's contest. Deaton, 48, a 20-year legislative veteran who has been chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, entered the race late. Barrett, 36, is a New York native and Vietnam veteran who has backed right-wing causes.

In recent years, Mr. Kasznar had infrequent film and television roles, but he appeared with theatrical touring companies. He portrayed Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" and also toured in the cast of "Don Juan in Hell" with Myrna Loy, Edward Mul-hare and Ricardo Montalban. Mr. Kasznar originated the role of Uncle Max in the New York stage production of "The Sound of Music" and performed in the musical for nearly three years.

Kurt Kasznar, 65, character actor Associated Press HOLLYWOOD Kurt Kasznar, 65, a Vienna-born character actor who appeared in 60 movies and who por- trayed Commander Fitzhugh in the 1968-69 television series "Land of the Giants," has died of cancer, a spokeswoman said yesterday. Mr.

Kasznar was admitted to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica about 10 days before his death Monday, publicist Pat Fitzgerald said. Heavy-set and 6 feet tall, Mr. Kasznar was fluent in four languages and was adept at playing amiable rogues. He retained a middle-European accent for many of his movie and television roles.

Military Court of Appeals. During World War II, he was active in the Selective Service. From 1958 to 1964, he served as a deputy state attorney general for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Mr. Laveson served as a workmen's compensation referee from 1964 to 1971.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Henkin Laveson; a daughter, Sandra Smith; a son, Jack two brothers and two grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rosenberg's Raphael Sacks, 4720 N. Broad St. Interment will be.
