Mountainair New Mexico in France, November, 9, 191S. Dear Little Sister and Folks: I just received your letter of October 7, it being the first from home, I was relieved to get, it. To be sure mail gets badly mixed up but most of it reaches its destination. It had been so long since I liad heard from home, I was afraid someone else was get-ling my mail, but I don't suppose you knew my address. To be sure 1 have gotten several letters from my "dulce but all of them were sent to postoflice in the States, and forwarded over.

In fact, it, takes so long for news to get to me, I always assume that the other fellow is the "lobster" and I am the "wise guy." Oee, Sis, but you can put up a real letter for a soldier, I almost felt like a hero when I read your letter. Well, it is like this: so far as the war is concerned with me. I feel more or less like 1 was working for a big corporation in foreign country. Everything seems like a vacation or rather a trip of sightseeing. So far as hardships are concerned I have had worse while I was punching cattle.

All that is lacking is the loved ones and the restrictions that are necessary in the army. Actually I don't believe I would know how to act in an assembly of "honest to God" american speak ing girls. Some statement for me to make but it is the truth. These girls over here don't seem to be real to me. Their lingo is very perplexing, I may state.

Seeing from the papers, that, we have the Central Power bunch between a rock and a hard place, I am afraid that the hard place will get harder than the rock if Kritz don't wake up and get out while he is yet breathing. Sorry that crops are so punk at home. Well, it will all come out when it rains. You can save me a few "real" frijoles out of next year's crop, if not sooner. Idea is this, I am afraid that another crop of calves will he on the ground before 1 get buck.

Hope to play ball in Mountainair the Fourth of July. As everything stays about the same around here and things very dull I can't see any advantage of handling out any more superfluous surmises as to what is likely to happen. So kindly think of your "kid brother" as doping out advice to the aged for a living and raising the devil for amusement. I am your loving Bud. Sgt.
