A great deal of talk was heard about the city concerning the manner in which tbe last lot of recruits were allowed to depart for tbe front; one person comparing it to a lot of cattle being driven from home, and he was right, for it was indeed a very chilly send-off for boys wbo were going of their own accord to tbe front to fight for their country, and as the boys wbo leave tomorrow will do.

There is some talk among tbe patriotic citizens of the city that if the city does not furnish a band that they will furnish the band themselves, and giye tbe volunteeis a rousing send-off, and it would be proper for as many citizens as could psesibly be at tbe Armory to fall in line and march to tbe depot with tbe boys, and thereby how their appreciation of the boys' action in doing their best to defend Old Glory eyen it my be with their lives. He came up three times and on going down tbe third time he clutched tbe other by tbe legs and held him so tightly that he could not move. Tbe boy that was above the water screamed for help and his cries were heard by John Patterson, who at once jumped into tbe water and grabbed tbe first boy and brought bim to shore and being informed that the other boy had let go a few seconds before and was lying at the bottom of tbe dam John quickly dived to the bottom, grabbed the boy and brought bim to tbe shore and after a great deal of rolling he was pronounced out of danger and at last accounts has no more desire to go swimming for the future.
