Northern Arizona Sum mer Normal School For some weeks past plans have been materializing to conduct a large summer school at the Northern Arizona Normal School, flagstaff, Arizona. Mead, Principal of the Sangamon Street School, Decatur. Illinois, will have charge of the primaiy classes in the training school. A. O. Neal, Ph.

D. of the Department of Education, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, will conduct the classes in Pedagogy and History of Education. During the eight weeks a semester's work is covered in any given subject. All classes in major subjects recite twice a day, All classes in minor subjects recite once a day. Two majors and one minor constitute a maximun amount of work.

As a recreation from work the surroundings of Flagstaff offer many opportunities for picnics, outings for a day, and week-end camping trips. The session opens on June 21st, and, continuing for eight weeks, closes pn August 13th. The Santa Fe. Southern Pacific, and El Paso and S. W.

railroads will make a rate of one and one- third fare for the round trip to those wishing to attend the summer school at the Flagstaff Normal School this summer. Rates will be in effect June 18th to 21st, good to return August 14th to 17th. Forest Homesteads Sitgreaves Na tional Forest Arizona During the month of May. 1915, a total of 325 acres of land within the Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona, were listed with the Secretary of the Inter ior and will shortly be opened to entry under the Forest Homestead Act The lands thus listed were applied for individually by three applicants, and each one of these tracts was examined by a Forest Officer and found to be more valuable for agriculture than for Forest purposes.

Those whose applications with in the Sitgreaves National Forest were favorably acted upon dur ing the month of May are: W. 0. Merrill, Show Low, Arizona; Joseph A. Holladay, Lakeside, Arizona; F. A.

Lisle, Snowflake, Arizona. In addition to this, 768 acres were listed to applicants within other National Forests in Arizona, and 1521 acres within National Forests in New Mexico. Tourist Travel Heavy Tourist travel has been heavy during the past week through the country, most of them going from here to Grand Canyon to Williams and west The travel, according to garage owners, will ayerage close to fifty machines per day for the last week, and the summer travel has only just commenced. The big rush of western travel over the Old Trails Highway is not expected to begin in earnest until toward the middle of the month, and if present indications count for anything, will average a good 100 autos per day.
