FRIDAY EVENING. NOVEMBER 8, -1957 A I I I PAGE 25 PAUL DON OPENS NEW MARKET Paul Don (left), who has opened the new $250,000 Pinecrest market at 4800 E. Speedway, receives an assist In stocking his shelves from Charles C. Danziger, developer of the shopping center. The new foot grocery store will be managed by Russell LoGalbo, assisted by Earl Stevens.

Korea GIs Gear For A-Warfare Army commander in the Pacific area said today the two American divisions in Korea are partially equipped with weapons capable of firing atomic warheads. But no U. S. unit in Korea now has atomic warheads, an Army spokesman added shortly-after Gen. I.

D. White made the statement at a news conference. Arriving from Hawaii for an inspection tour, White said the 1st Cavalry and the 7th Infantry divisions "have some atomic delivery means available." "It is anticipated that they will be completely equipped as the necessary items become available," he added. White did not elaborate. Atomic warheads are believed stored on Okinawa, the main U.

S. arsenal for the Far East which lies less than three hours by military cargo plane from here. Both divisions are being reorganized into the Army's new "Pentomic" system for atomic-age warfare. An announcement in Washington last July said the conversion calls for supplying Honest John rockets, the Corporal guided missile and other weapons designed to use atomic warheSds, but that atomic-capable arms are not being sent to Korea at that time. The spokesman here said some of the weapons on hand have "dual capabilities of delivery- meaning they can propel either a conventional explosive charge or an atomic warhead.

The Army announced in June that it would introduce modern weapons into Korea because of "complete disregard" by the Reds in North Korea of the 1953 armi- 'stice ban on such arms. Defense Department spokesman said the modern weapons would include jet warplanes capable of delivering atomic bombs, but that "at this time no atomic weapons are being given to ground forces." White said South Korean military forces will receive "certain items of equipment in very good time" to modernize them. The likelihood of attack from North Korea "is lessening," White said. Asked if Soviet missiles would affect the U. S.

military position in the Pacific, the general said he did not "see any particular inference bearing on our situation here." Record Sum Paid In Sale Of Paintings NEW YORK --Competing collectors paid $1,708,550 last night for 65 paintings and set a new record for the amount realized at any single sale of modern paintings held here or abroad. The French paintings were assembled by the late George Lurcy. A a i i by Serre," a garden scene with a greenhouse--was sold for $200,000 to the New York art dealers, Rosenberg Steibel. They were believed to be acting as agents for a collector. Millionaire collectors competed at the auction at the Parke-Bernet Galleries.

Almost 2,000 bidders and spectators jammed the galleries. For an auction of paintings of any kind--old masters or moderns --it topped the previous record in this country. That was the $1,154,650 brought by the art collection of the late Elbert H. Gary in 1928. Last night's bidders, who came from many parts of the world, waged 65 separate battles for "the paintings in four salesrooms.

The runner-up in price was Gauguin's "Mau Taporo," an 1892 painting of a Tahitian woman in a field with a grazing horse. It went for $180,000 to Alex Goulandris, a Greek shipping magnate. Gpulandris also bought "Still Life with Cat" by Bonnard for $70,000. Lurcy was a Paris banker, broker and writer on financial and political subjects. He came to this country in 1940, three years after his marriage to Alice Snow Barbee of High Point, N.

C. He became a citizen in 1943 and engaged in the investment banking business here. He died in 1953. Under terms of his will, the proceeds of his art collection will be turned over to charitable and educational institutions. PUBLIC RECORDS CITY COURT Clague Van Slyke, Magistrate David G.
