Come Again, Mr. Clardy, Last week Mr. W. F. Clardy, of Lockesburg, sent us nineteen plums that weighed 40 ounces, and stated in his letter that if any of our Howard county friends could beat his plums they could get The News six months at his expense.

A notice of these plums was published in Wednesday's paper and before night Mrs. W. P. Feazel sent us the same number of plums that weighed 42 ounces, beating Mr. Clardy just two ounces.

She left on the afternoon train. In company with Mr. W.J. Landrum, of Little Rock, a representative of The News enjoyed a short visit to Doyle last Thursday. While at that place we had the pleasure of meeting Mr.

W. H. Norwood, a progressive merchant, farmer and gin man of that place. Mr. Norwood has a splendid farm and is expecting a good crop this year.

He also carries a nice stock of general merchandise. His gin enjoys a liberal patronage, having turned out over three hundred bales of cotton last season. It is Mr. Nor-wood's intention to replace his machinery with a new and late improved outfit so as to be, able to handle the large crop which will be grown in that vicinity this year. He will also change the location of the mill and erect anew building.

It is a pleasure to meet such a man as Mr. Norwood, who is a striking example of what a man may accomplsh in Arkansas by energy and economy. There is perhaps no truer saying than "Imitators are as thick as blackbirds in Major Holman returned from Fort Smith yesterday, where he had been to place W. W. Ross, of Howard county, in jail.

It seems that Ross was a postmaster at some-place in Howard county, and when letters were mailed he removed the uncancelled stamps -and placed cancelled ones on the letters. Ho was removed for some cause some time ago, and it was only lately they dug tip the above charge against him.
