M. John H. Levi Dies At Miami Beach MIAMI BEACH, Jan, 27 fAP). John H. Levi, former Miami Beach mayor, whose engineering and political abilities played a great part in the founding and developing of this resort city, died here last night at the age of 72.

Levi, a city councilman for 27 years and council president for 16, retired last June 4. He served as mayor for five years. Born in Charleston, W. Levi studied engineering and became superintendent of the Consolidated Shipbuilding Co. In New York.

In 1912 he accompanied the late Carl Q. Fisher on a cruise to Florida. The Fisher yacht anchored off what is now Miami Beach. So Impressed was Fisher by the possibilities that he decided then and there to found this city. Levi became chief engineer for Fisher and dredged sand from the bottom of tne bay to raise the land level.

He directed construction of hotels, home sites, polo grounds and golf courses.
