'We Wanted A House Ey BETTY MILBURN When Mr. and Mrs. John Haynes Jr. decided to build a house out in the Ft. Lowell-Craycroft Road area, they wanted a completely informal home for pleasant country living.

They chose their location so that Mrs. Haynes would have plenty of room to raise poodles (she has some 30 at the moment) and so Mr. Haynes could exercise his Labrador retriever and do some occasional shooting in the nearby river bed. Their friend and architect Ellamae Ellis League, AIA, suggested a wing-swept burnt adobe structure which spreads handsomely over a knoll and seems to emphasize the wide-sky feeling of their particular location, A wall of sliding glass doors and clerestory windows divides the central living area of the house into a cozy book-lined living room dominated by a huge burnt adobe fireplace, and a large glass-enclosed solarium. Both have brick floors, though the living room is carpeted.

At one end of the house is a spacious kitchen- dining room. Like the living area, it has beamed ceilings and adobe walls. Appliances, cabinets and the built-in buffet are done in the pleasant soft adobe color Mrs. Haynes has used throughout the house. Aluminum counter tops in the kitchen and the asphalt tile floor reiterate Mrs.

Haynes' desire for a home requiring a minimum of care, At the far end of the house, the bedroom wing opens off the living room. Builder was Al Hubbard. Mr. Haynes is an ardent sportsman, and his guns decorate fireplace wall. The two oldest guns are from the collection of his great uncle, pioneer Tucsoninn, Dr. I. E.
