Lloyd left for Colorado Friday. Chas. Solomon was in Clifton Monday from the county seat. Joe returned from his outing-, up the river, yesterday. Judge Munro went to Ft.

Thomas Tuesday on a short vacation. H. C. Day was here Monday and Tuesday from his home at Duncan. S.

W. Massey, of the Exchange, keeps nothing but first-class goods. The 40-ton engines, Nos. 12 and 14, are now running in and out of Clifton. Jeff Dunagan, wife and daughter, returned from Fort Worth, Texas, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Price came up from Safford last week and returned yesterday. Assistant Superintendent Murray Innes returned from California Tuesday evening. The new lodging house at Morenci contains forty-three rooms and they are all occupied.

Supt. Simmons returned from Houston Friday and reports Texas in a flourishing condition. Constable Billy Hamilton returned Saturday from a short business trip to San Antonio, Texas. A. H.

Hilton, a prominent San Antonio, N. merchant was in Clifton several days this week. Married, in North Clifton, on August 14, Nestor Garcia to Barbara Miller, Judge Wright officiating. Billings Laffy, of the Union Market, continue to please their customers by handling first-class goods. Mrs.

Frank Connor returned from Kansas, Saturday, where she has been on a visit to her mother and daughter. The Morenci Improvement at Morenci, have seven or eight more residence buildings under construction. H. S. VanGorder, store manager for the D.

C. left for New York Saturday to purchase fall and winter goods. R. S. Tossell, the photographer, has accepted a position in the grocery department of the D.

C. store at Morenci. Jim Gillespie, candidate for county recorder, returned from Blue river Tuesday and left for valley points yesterday. The dance that was to come off at Library hall has been changed to take place at the Academy, on Saturday evening next. Becker Spezia, proprietors of the First Chance saloon, have received a fine large music box for the amusement of their customers.

The many friends of Henry Hill are pleased to see him on the streets again. Henry has been on the sick list for a couple of weeks. Chas. Gilisher, wife and children, accompanied by J. A.

Hoffman, left Tuesday evening for a two weeks' outing on the Blue and Black river. Give Billings Laffy your orders for choice meats and sausages of all kinds. Chickens and fish and cooked ham received three times per week. Pedro Michelena, county recorder, says that he has not appointed any deputies to register voters. The justices of the peace in the various precincts throughout the county are authorized by law to register voters.

The D. C. at Morenci, have a force of fifty men at work, just above the new four-story stone store building, grading the hill for building sites. C. L.

Mitchell started for Denver, Tuesday, on a 30-days' vacation. Mr. Mitchell is an employe of the D. C. at Morenci, in the store department.

The boilers for the ice factory in Morenci, are in place. The site of the plant is back of and near the new store building. The D. C. Co.

will run the plant. George H. Chase spent last Sunday at his mines on Chase Creek. George has some good claims and the Era hopes he wilr make enough out of them to retire on. Dr.

A. Davidson will leave for California on a visit to his family just as soon as his brother, Dr. Thos. Davidson, arrives from Los Angeles to relieve him, which will be in a day or so. Mr and Mrs.

Hopkins sailed the 11th on the Compania, for the land o' cakes and brown heath, blessed by all the wishes of their friends, for good health, good luck and a safe return. The repair work on the A. N. M. R'y was completed this week and Superintendent Simmons is to be congratulated on the fine condition of the road, due to his efficient management.

Oscar Summerfield started for Hot Springs, Arkansas, Monday, but returned Tuesday in answer to a telegram stating that his daughter, who was shot last week by Mrs. Campbell, was very low. At the July meeting of the board of county supervisors, J. H. Hampson's assessment on cattle was raised from 8,000 to 9,000 head, and raised on valuation thereof from $80,000 as assessed, to $90,000.

Doc Wilkins has severed his connection with the Clifton ice plant and is now agent for the Novelty Cutlery of Canton, Ohio. Doc will remain in Clifton and vicinity for about a month and will then canvass the valley towns. C. W. Marks, the popular Morenci photographer, was in Clifton Monday.

Mr. Marks presented the Era with a lot of views of Morenci, which are fine. He is putting in his time, during the dull season now, making views of his section. Mrs. S.

A. Baker has purchased the Arcade restaurant from J. T. Caid. Mrs.

Baker will endeavor to please her customers and there is no doubt about her succeeding in doing so, as she understands the restaurant business thoroughly. R. J. Young, the surveyor, came up from the valley last week to make a survey of a mine for patent for the Shannon Copper Co. Mr.

Young is engaged in constructing a ditch for some Gila valley farmers, which takes up considerable of his time now. Judge Thos. T. Hunter arrived from Safford Tuesday and returned home today. The Judge called on the Era while here and we found him to be a pleasant, genial gentleman.

He has many friends throughout Arizona and has been a resident of the Territory since 1867. The D. C. Co. lost 40 tons of hay by fire last Monday.

Sunday, the roof of the store building caught afire, but was extinguished before any serious damage was done. And later Sunday the company lost several cords of wood. The fires were all started by sparks from passing engines. Dell M. Potter, the mining man, has been experimenting with Kaffir corn on his place above town.
