After the fight, Webb had nothing but praise for his opponent, the No. 8 ranked middleweight from New Orleans. "THAT WAS ONE of my hardest fights," said Webb, who now has a 23 and 2 record. "Joseph is one of the smartest fighters I ever met. "The kid is a quick thinker.

After I stopped his left hooks, he turned around and unloaded right hand leads. And Joseph kept on crowding me with inside jabs." Both fighters weighed 157y 2 "After that tough fight, I feel that I'm ready for anyone in the middleweight class and that in- Webb added. "Sugar Ray Robinson says that I've got the potential to be the champ in the division. I'm going try to back his statement." Meanwhile, Joseph, who made rally in the last two rounds and appeared strong at the finish, was disappointed in the decision. "I THOUGHT I HAD won the fight.

If we had gone another couple of rounds, I know I would have won," he said. Asked if he was hurt by Webb's flurry of punches in the seventh round, Joseph said he couldn't understand why he down for the barrage. "But, Webb still didn't hurt me in that round. I'd like to meet him again," said Joseph, who now has a 40-6-1 career mark. The last Webb-Joseph-fight resulted in a controversial decision.

Last night's fight was just as close with referee William Doty and judge Frank Clark giving the battle to Webb. Judge Howard Walsh had it 45-45 on the point system. The Associated Press scored the fight 47-47. EIroy (Crazylegs) Hirsch, starting his 12th year as a professional football player, says the Los Angeles Rams have fine spirit this year.
