Y. Peter Carl Com-rk, former head of research for the Columbia Broadcasting System and invent-r of the long-playing record, died yesterday in an auto ac-'Hent, police reported. Mr.

Goldmark, who celebrated his "st birthday five days ago, was killed when his car struck another automobile on the Hutchinson River Parkway in. Rye, 20 miles north of Manhattan. He was pronounced dead on arrival at United Hospital in Port Chester. Mr. Goldmark left CBS on a Friday in December 1971, when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 65.

The following Monday he founded Goldmark Communications Corp. in Stimford, Conn. The company has developed several monev-making oatents, notably a system for transferring movie to videotape without distortion. The system is used by pay television companies. Mr.

Goldmark's latest invention was a system that would use satellites to provide low-cost adult education in rural areas. He was awarded the National Science Medal two weeks ago by President Carter. The award recognized his many contributions in the fields of and sound. Mr. Goldmark was wholly or partjj-credited with more than 150 inventions, including the first practical color TV system and the first practical long-playing record.

A music lover and proficient pianist and cellist, Mr. Goldmark developed an interest in improving reproduction of sound that led to development in 1948 of the 33 1-3 r.p.m. record that extended playing time and greatly improved fidelity over the old 78 r.p.m. disks. The development revolutionized the re-wding industry.

Mr. Goldmark, who was born in Budanest, Hungary, on Dec. 2, 1906, attended the University of Berlin and earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees in physics from the University of Vienna. He worked briefly as a physicist in England and emigrated to the United States in 5933, becoming a naturalized citizen four years later. After joining CBS, he rose from the position of chief engineer of a virtually nonexistent television department to the presidency of CBS 1.800.462.2867 IN NEW JERSEY 1.800-523.2826 DEADLINES: Classified wont ads may be plord 1 A.

Goldmark Shane O'Neill, son of the late playwright Asnociutcd Pren NEW YORK Shane O'Neill, 57, son of the late playwright Eugene O'Neill, died in a Brooklyn hospital last June after jumping out a fourth- floor window, the New York Times reported yesterday. He had attempted suicide several times earlier, and had a history of drug arrests and alcoholism. Coney Island Hospital confirmed 'this that a Shane O'Neill had died there on June 24, one day after being admitted. The Times said that 'his relationship to Eugene O'Neill was not immediately discovered. Shane O'Neill was the brother of Oona O'Neill Chaplin, the wife of comedian Charlie Chaplin, and both were disinherited by their father, who died in 1953.

Shane O'Neill reportedly was disinherited because of the playwright's displeasure at his son's life-style, and Mrs. Chaplin because of her marriage to a man more than twice her age. A half-brother, Eugene O'Neill 1 committed suicide in 1950. Shane spent most of his life in a variety of odd jobs. Despite the disinheritance, he and Mrs.

Chaplin owned renewed copyrights and received roy- alties from several of their father's plays. Charles D. Price Charles D. Price, 72, a retired Frankford Arsenal supervisor, died Tuesday in West Jersey Hospital in Voorhees Township, N. J.

He lived at the Towers of Windsor Park apart-, merits, Cherry Hill. Mr. Price, a long-time resident of Haddonfield, retired from the arsenal in 1972 after working there 40 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Chamberlin; two brothers, and two sisters. Services will be held at 2 p.m.
