Construction under way at Palm Desert site Luxury Resort Condominiums Ground was broken Thursday, April 19, at Desert Springs Racquet Club, a 15-acre residential resort community on Hovley Lane and Portola, adjacent to Monterey Country Club, in Palm Desert. The community, when completed, will offer a total of 71 villas built in duplex and fourplex configurations on wide "tree-belts" that screen neighboring units from view. The homes will be priced $108,000 to $128,000 when pre -sales are launched.

Occupancy is expected in late fall. Offered in the community will be 35 two-bedroom, two-bath homes of 1,250 square feet, with dual master bedrooms and a large "desert room" entertainment area opening to a cocktail terrace. Also set for construction are 36 two-bedroom, two-bath-and-den homes designed for family living. A central atrium opens to both a den-library and entry. The owner's wing of each home has an oval tub, a walk -in closet and his-and-her vanities with plate-glass mirrors.

Desert Springs Racquet Club has been designed and will be built around sunken, night-lighted tennis courts, three free -form pools and three therapy spas. The community, a production of Desert.Springs Joint Venture, was designed by architect Robert Riccardi, AIA, as a residential village offering low-maintenance and high-privacy factors.
