issued the following statement at noon today concerning servation Tipton's water supply: Co-operation of the citizens of this community is requested in the conservation. of our water supply. The canning of the tomato, crop, which -means a great deal to" the farmers in this community and, to the payroll of workers in the city, is at its peak. The water resources of the canneries. and city are barely enough to meet the combined needs.

It therefore behooves all of us to be as conservative as we reasonably can in the use of water during the next 10 days. Rubush left the United States from Camp Lawton, and spent two weeks in Japan before being sent to northern Korea. The Sharpsville high school graduate, son of the late Lyle Rubush, was inducted into the Army August 24, 1951. He received his basic- training at Camp. 4, 1895, County Tax Rate Lowered Lower tax rates in 1953 are in prospect for Tipton county residents. This forecast of lower rates was made Thursday afternoon at a publie hearing on budgets and tax rates for the county and other taxing units at the Tipton county auditor's office. Following the hearing, Paul Daw: son, Tipton county auditor, stated that persons in the county could expect a slight cut in their tax rates. Also, officials for the state board of tax commissioners reported that Tipton county would be one of five or six counties in Indiana which would enjoy decrease in the tax rate. Meeting with the auditor in the courthouse were Herbert C.

Holmes, field representative for the state board of tax commissioners: Oliver M. Zeiher, legal adviser for the and William T. Mints, representative for the Indiana Taxpayers association. Valuations Increase Dawson reported. that taxable property valuations in Tipton county this year increased over a million dollars.

The 1951 valuation total compared with $33,656,150 for 1952. Responsible for the- reduction in the county tax rate were decreases in several of the county taxing units. County welfare rate dropped from cents to cents and hospital maintenance showed a decrease of cents, dropping from 7 cents to cents. Also, the county general fund was cut from 48.7 cents to 44 cents. On the other.

hand, ditch improvement fund was one of the few to receive an increase in the rate. This rate jumped from 5 cents to 7 cents. Dawson explained this was necessary to build up a' fund to finance the improvement on ditches. These improvements are then paid for. by the property owners.

Slightly higher rates will prevail Wildcat township, Town of Sharpsville and Town of Windfall due to improvements planned in these localities. Wildcat, township and Windfall are improving school facilities and residents of Sharpsville are going to repair streets and roads within the community. Tax, rate for. the city of Tipton was slashed 50 for the coming year. The rate skidded from $4.96 to $4.46.

One of the biggest cuts in the city budget was the park rate, which fell from 41.7 cents to 16.4 cents. Motorists Warned To Stop for Parked School Buses Tipton county sheriff's office 'reported today that several complaints have been received concerning automoblies passing school buses on highways in the county while children were boarding or leaving the vehicles. According to Indiana state law, it is illegal for motorists to pass a school bus from either direction while loading or unloading school children. Persons caught violating this law are subject to a fine and imprisonment. Sheriff Jesse Owen urged all bus drivers to wait until the highway is clear before opening the door to let the school children off the bus.
