The New York World, in an article on The Democratic Party," with entire truth ays: What wo beg the reader particularly to remark is, that, throughout our whole political history, although the costume has frequently been changed, it has been the same identical struggle between exorbitant federal per-' tcntions on the one side and popular on tho other. To suppose that this struma has become obsolete ouly be-tokens the shallowness of the supposer. To fancy that the present is a time when the Democratic party nas no work before it, the performance of which is demanded by its principles, is to be as incapable of discerning the signs of the times as a bat is of-sceing in the day-time. If the Democratic party were annihilated today it would spring up again to-morrbw. It is in the nature of things that overgrown power will become oppressive, and that part of the community who hope to share neither power nor the plunder that is to say, the Democratic masses, will resist.
