The topic mistress, Mrs. Andrew DeVivo chose as table topics, Each member was given the name of a well known product and required to give a one-minute sales talk on that item. This started the meeting on a hilarious note. "Pike's Peak or Bust" was the title of a very humorous speech made by Mrs. Everett Dalby.

It depicted a fictitious uncle and aunt who had been invited by the Prairie Farmers magazine to go on a Rocky Mountain vacation. The modern plumbling on the train excited the farm couple to exclaim, "What will they think of next in this atomic age!" Mrs. Charles Pierce, the second speaker had as her topic "How to Serve in a Committee." This, too was a humorous speech, caricaturing committees with such remarks as, "Human beings are the only known species who advanced to the high level of committee appointing. Even ants who are known to work diligently together, who have armies and who fight wars, haven't resorted to appointing a bunch of ants to do committee work." Mrs Pierce summed up her humorous ridicule of committee workers, saying, "They don't get much work done, but get a lot of people together." Mrs. Carl Tubbesing, in charge of the educational program chose "Special Evaluation" as her subject.

She gave a detailed outline of the advantages of speech evaluation-, starting her talk by saying, "Criticism is uncomplimentary to most people. Even when we call it constructive, it's still criticism" Mrs. Tubbesing said, "the primary purpose is to give the speaker the advantage of learning the reaction of her audience. There can be no progress without constructive criticism. A speaker will fall into "bad habits unless faults are pointed out by she said She further stated that, 'To omit or slight the use of criticism in the Toastmistress Club is to miss one of the fundamental values of the work practice in speech and training in critical listening." Toastmistress for the meeting was Mrs.

Robert Toney; critics, Mrs. Daniel Moon and Mrs. John A. Kcons; timer, Mrs. Louis A.

Mylius. Present at the meeting were 15 members and a guest, Mrs. Herbert 'Woodward. Mrs. Daniel Moon was nominated as a candidate for Vice President of Council 4.

Mrs. Moseley, widely respected for the family of four children she helped rear and for her personal leadership in religious, political, civic, community and state activities during the past 30 years, was nominated for the state honor by the Metropolis Woman's Club and the Evening Woman's Club. Many other clubs, organizations and prominent individuals joined in endorsing her nomination to the Illinois committee of the American Mothers' Committee.
