10 a st Death of a Nevada Pioneer Joseph Rouse died in his cabin near Lovelock on the evening of May 18th aged 74 years says the New Era Joe Rouse was a native of Point where he was born of rench parentage He served in the Mexican war and lost a finger in one of its battles He went to California in an early day and came to Nevada in 1862 In the early days of Humboldt when in mining claims were a in that county Joe Rouse was a celebrated character He was an untiring prospector and located many claims in Buena Vista District When were demonetized Joe worked as amalgamator for John all in the the jurisdiction was represented The following Grand Officers were present: Hofer Past Grand Chancellor Beard Grand Chancellor xYitken Grand Vice Chancellor Hummel Grand Prelate George Hatch Grand Master of Exchequer A Stoddard Grand Keeper of Records and Seal Torreyson Grand Master at Arms Rosenthal Grand Inner Guard Supreme Repre sentative George King After opening in ritualistic form the report of the Committee on Credentials was read and adopted A recess was taken during which the Supreme Chancellor was informally presented to the members of the Grand Lodge Upon re convening the reports of the Grand Officers were received and re ferred to a cornmitte on distribution The Grand Chancellor detailed in his report his official acts during his term lie reports the Order throughout the jurisdiction notwithstanding the gen eral depression in a healthy and pros perous condition although no increase of membership has occurred during the year the jurisdiction has held its own Grand Keeper of Records and Seal A Stoddard in his report sta es that the loss in the grand jurisdiction in membership for the year ending De cember 31 1893 only amounted to seventeen This has been entirely overcome by a gain in the last five months Twelve members have died He makes a number of recommenda tions concerning changes in the law and reports the finances of the Lodge in the State in a good condition There are fourteen subordinate lodges in the jurisdiction with a membership of 848 Three thousand two hundred and eighty one dollars in benefits have been paid during the year or the relief of members $181 90 for burial expenses $109 15 for current expenses $6937 34 A balance of cash on hand is reported by subordinate lodges of $16627 80 After the reports of officers were received the Supreme Chancellor made a short address and said that during the grand session he would address the Graud Lodge at length He stated that he had visited thirty six Grand Jurisdictions traveling over 60000 miles in the last twelve months and expects to visit ten other Grand Lodges before the expiration of his term of office making a journey yet to be taken of over 10000 miles At 3 o'clock the Graud Lodge took a recess till 7 :30 EVENING SESSION The evening session was called to order at 7:30 51 The hour for the election of grand officers for the ensuing term was fixed at 11 a 51 to day Wadsworth was chosen as the place to hold the next session of the Grand Lodge The Supreme Chancellor gave much valuable information concerning the interpretation of the laws of the Order andzthe representatives were granted the privilege of asking questions so that they could in turn instruct heir respective lodges regarding the laws and methods of the organization Supreme Chancellor Blackwell is a very fluent and pleasing speaker and an enthusiastic Pythian and tire less worker He is a plain man and is opposed to receptions and banquet ing but simply desires to meet the members of the order as a Pythian and give them the benefit of his knowledge and experience The visit of Supreme Chancellor Blackwell to Nevada will be of incalculable benefit to the Order in the State and it
