Sunday, Feb. 19, 1978 Philadelphia Inquirer 1S-E Obituaries Reuben Schnee Reuben Schnee, 76, who had been, active in the fruit and produce industry locally for 35 years, died Friday at St. Agnes Hospital. He lived at the Manor Apartments in Jenkintown. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Epstein; a son, Albert; six brothers; a sister, and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at Goldsteins, 6410 N. Broad St. Burial win be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Trevose. Andrew Pesci Andrew Pesci, 76, a real estate broker and Democratic committeeman, died Friday in Germantown Hospital.

He lived at 127 W. Harvey St. in Germantown. Mr. Pesci had been a real estate broker since 1928 and had been employed by the Veterans Administration and the Frankford Arsenal.

Since 1961, he was self-employed. He was one of the founders of the First American Hungarian Savings and Loan Association, originally located on Germantown Avenue, but now in Southampton, Bucks County. He was a committeeman in the 22d division, 59th Ward and was a delegate to the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago. Mr. Pesci also had summer homes in Centerton, N.

and in Florida. Florida. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Hanisch; four sons, Andrew, Charles, Louis and James; two daughters, Nancy Munshower and Elaine Scully; one brother, one sister and 17 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at St.

Luke the Evangelist Church, Glenside. Tootsie' Bess with country singer Faron Young in her lounge Hettie 'Tootsie' Bess, 63, had country music lounge the Reynolds picture. The jukebox in the bar plays country music only, and only very loud. The lounge also has pinball machines, blinking beer signs, and jars of Polish sausages and pickled eggs. A notice behind the bar says, "If You Don't Clean Your Tab in 1968, Your Credit Is No Damn Good in 1969." Through the years, hundreds of country music bands have played for tips at Tootsie's, hoping to "be discovered." A small woman with a shrill voice, Mrs.

Bess did not hesitate to use a hatpin to keep patrons in line, but she was known for listening sympathetically to down-and-out musicians and opening her bar to benefit performances for the sick. Before opening the lounge, Mrs. Bess was a singer-comedienne for a country music group, Big Jeff and the Radio Playboys. A son, Howard Dodson, said that the lounge would remain open. Samuel Lieberman Samuel Lieberman, 86.

a retired clothing cutter, died Saturday at Rolling Hill Hospital. He had lived at 2100 dendale Ave. Mr. Lieberman was a Democratic committeman in the 56th ward, second division, for 40 years. He was president of the B'nai Joseph Progressive Association and, for 60 years, a member of the Amalgamated Mens Clothing Workers' Union.

He worked as a cutter at H. Freeman Sons until he retired in 1968. He is survived by a son, Herbert, and a daughter, Helen Hahn. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Goldsteins', 6410 N.

Michael Vincent R. Michael, 46, a certified public accountant and former visiting professor of accounting at Temple University, died Saturday at his Bala Cynwyd home. Mr. Michael lived at 108 Leland Rd. A self-employed accountant, Mr.

Michael had taught at Temple from 1972 until last year. Before coming to Philadelphia in 1972, Mr. Michael had held such posts as acountant, treasurer, controller and chief financial officer for several firms in the Midwest. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.

He was born in Cahokia, 111. Mr. Michael was a member of the South Philadelphia Businessman's Association and the South Philadel-phian Optimists Club. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at the Berschler Funeral Chapel, 4300 N.

Broad St. Burial will be at Mount Sharon Cemetery, Springfield, Delaware County. Grace de Laguna Grace de Laguna, 99, an author and former professor emeritus in philosophy at Bryn Mawr College, died Friday at the Devon Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. de Laguna, the former Grace Mead Andrus, was associated with Bryn Mawr for 60 years, beginning with her appointment as an associate professor in 1916.

She became chairman of the philosophy department in 1930 and professor emeritus in 1942. With her husband, the late Theodore de Laguna, she co-authored "Dogmatism and Evolution." She later wrote "Speech: Its Function and Development" and "On Existence and the Human World," published in 1966. She also wrote numerous articles and is listed in American Authors Today and the World Who's Who of Authors. She is survived by her daughter, Frederica de Laguna. herself a professor emeritus at Bryn Mawr College; and a son, Wallace.

Col. Marcus Bottorff Funeral services were held Friday for retired Army Lt. Col. Marcus G. Bottorff, 67, a native Philadelnhian who died last week at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.

Lt. Col. Bottorff supervised photography at the Japanese war crimes trials following World War II and also supervised the Army film series. "Big Picture." A graduate of Penn State, he began his military career in the cavalry. He concluded his military career as public information officer at Fort Dix, N.

J. His military awards and decorations included the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He is survived by his wife, Kaye; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Phelps; a son, John R. Lababie, and two granddaughters.

William It. Gordon William R. Gordon, 65, a retired accountant for the Army, died Thursday at Pennsylvania Hospital. He lived at 5721 Jefferson St. Mr.

Gordon worked 22 years for the U. S. Army Electronic Command office, formerly at 225 S. 18th and iciiltd iii 1373 iicdd of die examinations division in the controller's office. He is survived by a son, Richard; three daughters, Jacqueline, Karen and Lisa, and two brothers.

Segal Shirley Weinstein Segal, 55, died Friday at Albert Einstein Medical Center, northern division. She lived at 8111 Fsyette St. in Mount Airy. Mrs. Segal was a member of the Sisterhood of the West Oak Lane Jewish Community Center and a contributing member of the Kidney Foundation.

Hettie Louise (Tootsie) Bess, spirited proprietress of a landmark country bar where starry-eyed country singers came to be discovered, died Saturday. She was 63. Mrs. Bess died at Vanderbilt Hospital here after a long illness, a hospital spokesman said. In the late 1950s, she had opened Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, whose back door led to what was then the Grand Ole.

Opry House. The bar became nearly as famous localfy as the Opry itself, even though the Opry moved in 1974 to a new site 10 miles away. The three-room, split-level bar became a hangout for the famous, the not-co-famous and tourists. Autographed pictures of country music starts cover the walls, and parts of two. movies W.

For the ten years before his retirement, he had worked as a salesman and assistant manager at the Penn-Jersey Auto Store at Torres-dale and Allegheny Avenues. Prior to that, he had owned the now-defunct Delaware Hide and Fur Co. of Wilmington, which he founded. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Sklut; two daughters, Ada Levin and Libby Pearlman; a sister, Sarah Henick, and six grandchildren. Haldane and her husband, who was a noted geneticist, biometri-cian and physiologist, immigrated from Britain to India in 1952 and became Indian citizens the next year. They set up research centers and carried out experiments in interbreeding various animals, including tortoises and turtles and jackals and dogs. Mrs. Haldane's special field of interest was mammalian genetics and evolution. Her husband died in 1964 at the age of 72.

Hardin Blair Jones, 6.1, a University of California teacher and biochemical researcher who was among the first scientists to warn of the hazards of cigaret smoking and exposure to low-level radiation, died Thursday at Berkely, Calif. The Rev. Patrick Treanor, 58, London-born director of the Vatican observatory, died Saturday in Rome. Father Treanor, an astrophysics graduate of Oxford University, had been with the observatory at Castel-gandolfo, near Rome 1961 and was its director for the last 18 years. E.

A former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, he was active in businesses involving food products and oil until his retirement five years ago. He married Miss Lamour in 1943. Stuart was secretary of the Television, Radio, Advertising Club and the first woman recipient of the club's Conywriter-of-the-Year award. Mrs. Stuart also was president of the Tree of Life Auxiliary, vice president of the Northern Hebrew Day Nursery, a volunteer for the Glenside Library, a member of Congregation Rodeph Shalom and a board member of the congregation's sisterhood.
