Johnny Parsons who never has started a 500-mile race higher than 12th, is planning a surprise for the other 32 drivers at the 1 p.m. start of today's sixth annual Schaefer 500. Parsons, 29, the son of the 19S0 Indianapolis 500 winner, declined to elaborate, but indicated he would opt for a rather slow start from the pole position, which he won in last week's lottery.

"I know Gordy (Johncock) likes a fast start his car seems to work better," Parsons said in response to Johncock's unsolicited advice that the best thing he can do is go as fast as he can.
