When Cobb was suspended, Detroit's team struck in sympathy. "I wound up wearing Cobb's uniform and also using his glove in center field," Mr. Leinhauser once recalled.

Interment will be in Holv By Dwight Ott Inquirer stuff Writer William Charles Leinhauser, 84, a retired captain of the North Central Detective Division of the Philadelphia Police Department, died Friday in Rolling Hill Hospital. He resided at 1242 Van Kirk St. Mr. Leinhauser retired in 19S9 as head of the division, then located at 19th and Oxford Streets. He spent 41 years in the Police Department, 29 of them in the narcotics squad.

He wag an amateur welterweight who boxed overseas in France during World War I and served in the U. S. Army's anti-aircraft artillery squad. After his discharge, he won the Police Department welterweight championship in 1920 at the last interdepartmental boxing show at a police carnival at Shibe Park. Mr.

Leinhauser helped to make baseball history as a member of a sandlot baseball team that played the Philadelphia A's when the Detroit Tigers went on strike May 18, 1912. He helped save the Detroit team from a $5,000 fine and possible loss of its franchise. Mr. Leinhauser's team lost, 24-2. During the game, Leinhauser took Ty Cobb's place in the outfield.

SALE PRICED Mr. Leinhauser was a past com Charles J. Bauman Charles J. Bauman 53, a retired Navy commander, died Friday at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Cmdr.

Bauman, a native of Philadelphia, lived in Alexandria, Va. He graduated from Frankford High School in 1942 and the U. S. Naval Academy in 1949. A decorated veteran of World War Cmdr.

Bauman served 28 years on active duty, including tours on destroyers, carriers and mine sweepers. His last command was the USS Leahy in 1969. He later served on the staff of the commander in chief of the Pacific and as an adviser to the Imperial Iranian Navy. He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Bowen; two sons, Charles 3d and Brian; two daughters, Bess Ann and Charlis, a brother and four sisters. Services will be held at 3 p.m.

Tuesday in the Fort Myer (Va.) chapel. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Morris Edelson Morris (Jimmy) Edelson, 79, a retired Philadelphia clothing executive, died Thursday in New York City. A former resident of Philadelphia, he lived on Park Avenue in New York. Mr.

Edelson was a former partner in the now-defunct women's clothing firm of Edelson Sons 22d and Arch Streets. The company was founded in 1915 and went out of business in 1955. Mr. Edelson was a member of the Zionist Organization of America, the Masons and Har Zion Synagogue. He is survived by a daughter, Marion Jacobs, a brother, Samuel Edelson and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at a.m. Sunday in the Riverside Chapel, 76th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, New York. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today at Har Nebo Cemetery in Philadelphia. Rupert R. Clement, 80, former minister of Richmond Baptist Church in Philadelphia, died Saturday at his home on Fifth Street here. Mr. Clement was pastor of Richmond Baptist Church from 1931 until 1945. After two years as an Army chaplain, he moved here, where he served as minister of the Victoria Baptist Church from 1947 until his retirement in 1953.

Mr. Clement was a graduate of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was a member of the Masons and was a former trustee of the Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union. Va. He is survived by his wife, Juanita R.

Clement; a son, John R. Clement; three daughters, Ruth Barlow, Mrs. W. E. Nelson and Mrs.

Harold Walker; two brothers, Charles M. and Roland a sister, Kathleen Kutz; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Victoria Baptist Church, Eighth and Washington Streets. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria.

Celia S. Steinberg Celia Shapiro Steinberg, 72, died Thursday at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Northern Division. She lived at the Chestnut Hill Village apartments, 7700 Stenton Ave. Mrs. Steinberg, the wife of the late Irwin Steinberg, was a member of the West Oak Lane Jewish Community Center and its sisterhood organization.

She was also a member of the Friends of the Delta School. She is survived by two sons, Leonard and Marvin; two sisters, Florence Haut and Mary Schwab, and five grandchildren. Services will be held at noon Sunday at Levine's, 7112 N. Broad St. Burial will follow at Montefiore Cemetery.
