That dream becomes re-' ality at midnight tonight, and Channel 57 general manager Al Tedesco said demand for Prism, on his over-the-air, scrambled-signal system had been "unprecedented." Normally, Prism is available only on cable TV systems that choose to offer it to customers; by dropping SelecTV (a pay-TV package of movies and specials) and replacing it with Prism's 24-hour signal, Channel 57 can target itself at all Prism fans, mostly sports enthusiasts, who currently are out of cable's reach. According to Tedesco, very few customers have refused to switch from SelecTV to Prism, and Channel 57 has doubled its installation crews to fill demands for new installations. All this activity comes a mere six weeks after Channel 57 finalized the deal to offer Prism on its STV system. Also contributing to this report were Mary Ann Norbom and Lynda Hirsch. Concert "By David Bianculfi biqulnt Staff Vrtfr CBS is throwing a lavish party in New York Wednesday to celebrate the completion of its Pope John 11 made-for-TV movie and wanted all the show's actors to attend.

Albert Finney, the star, graciously accepted, but British stage actor Michael Crompton, who' plays the Pope as a young man, politely declined. He had a prior commitment, he explained, appearing in Shakespeare's Pericles at a West End theater in London. CBS, feeling Crompton's absence could prove embarrassing, offered to buy out the 550-seat house for that evening at a cost of 2,000 so that the play could be shut down for one night without financial loss to anyone. To make matters easier, CBS also offered to shuttle Crompton back and forth by Concorde. Despite those offers, Crompton stood firm.

He couldn't let his fellow stage actors down, he explained, and they and the audience expected the show to go on. How much is Crompton earning as a cast member of Pericles! A whopping 70 a week in American currency, roughly $21 a day. SHO The Crown The Mumc Chanool 1 fr 0' 'it SPN fctaoweveOo9 Traveler! I Ccoteio TreWwg World TBS 1 15! NBC hasn't moved "Yellow Rose" yet, but Anspach has announced her intention to move out. According to series star Sam Elliott, "There's sparks flying between those two blondes." And although there has been little electricity generated by the show at Saturdays at 10 p.m., opposite ABC's "Fantasy Island" (last week the em was ranked 66th of 70 shows), the bloom is not off "The Yellow Rose." NBC knew the Saturday time period was a suicide mission; according to Elliott, the cast members appeared in promotional spots saying, "Watch for us on our new day and time" weeks before the show on the air.

i New episodes of NBC's "Buffalo Bill" may be accompanied by a laugh track, though NBC tentatively has allowed the show to return with the lyrical sounds of silence. "Don't assume anything," akperson connected with "Buffalo Bill" warned, "NBC said they'd try it without a laugh track last time, but in the end, they decided to go with it. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again this year." In recent TV comedy history, only Larry Gelbart's "United States," a short-lived 1979 dark comedy on NBC, has been televised throughout its run without a laugh track.
