School Board Holds Meeting The monthly meeting of the Board of Education held in the superintendent's office last night. The board voted to designate April 3 as visitation day for the teachers. On that day teachers will visit schools of St. Louis and East St. Louis, and April 4, will be a meet- Ing of the South Western division of the Illinois State Teachers Association.

All teachers will attend from this part of the state. The board also decided to plant trees around the school grounds where they are needed, and will do this in observance ot Arbor Day. Their was a report given by Superintendent of Schools, G. A. Smith, that the close of schools on Feb.

29, there were 1044 children in the school system The enrollment is still Increasing. A. number of families have moved in from the southern states. Entertains Bunco Club Miss Mariy Stoneham delightfully entertained her Bunco club last evening at her home. Bunco was the evening's diversion.

Jacoyss. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stregal of East Alton spent last avenlng with Mrs. Susan Hay.

Mr. and Mrs, Carl Fox visited Mrs. Edwin Lut and little son last night at St. Joseph's hospital at Alton. Mr, and Mrs.

S. Beuchman and little daughter left for Chicago for a two weeks' visit with relatives. Miss Jennie Bode has resumed her duties at the Standard restaurant. Ember Week Being Observed Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week will be Ember days, days of fast and abstinence. For the past several years in Alton (now the Springfield) Diocese, Catholics have been given the privilege ot eating meat on Wednesdays during Lent.
