Holland, 67, a former researcher and librarian for The Inquirer, died Monday at Lankenau Hospital. She lived in West Philadelphia. Miss Holland, who retired from her newspaper work two years ago, had no intention of retiring to a life leisure.

Instead, she accepted the fact of retirement as she had accepted other obstacles in her life she charged. After a brief vacation, she went back to work, this time as a volunteer. She was on her way Monday to one her volunteer jobs, as an archivist for St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, when she collapsed. Physicians pronounced her dead at Lankenau Hospital a few minutes later.

She also worked in the offices of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. From time to time, friends had sided with her physicians and sug. gested that she slow her pace. She would gaze owlishly through thick glasses as she promised to consider the suggestion as soon as she found time. She was a graduate of Mater Misercordiae Academy now Merion Mercy Academy and attended St.

Joseph's College and Spring Garden Institute. Mary Holland spent her life bustling from problem to problem. Her application for employment at The Inquirer, filed Jan. 2, 1945, set the stage. Asked to list her interests, she needlepoint, painting, music, statistics, and the list went on and on until she ran out of room to write.

She quickly established herself as a tireless researcher. She worked endlessly on lunch hours and after work to satisfy readers' and reporters' questions. He lived in Ventnor, A member of the crew that printed the newspaper, he worked on The Inquirer's presses for 23 years, retirin 1976. He was a member of Printing Pressmen's Union Local 16.
