by John A Christie guardian of Herbert Christie against Lonkey has at last been settled The case has been before the Court for eight days all told and was hotly contested by the re spective parties Yesterday the law yers for plaintiff and defendant argued their cause and the Jury' was instruct od to deliberate upon their verdict shortly after 1 A verdict was arrived at at 8 last night and the Jury stood 9 to 3 in favor of the defendant It Is understood that the case will be 1 epealed Although young Christie suffered the loss of an arm it was brought out in the evidence deduced that it was through no fault of the Company and furthermore it was shown that Lonkey could not have be held lespohslble for the accident anyway for the Sunrise mill did not at the time of the Injury to Christie Letter of the 26th devotes considerable space to an article on Steamboat Springs and its outlook owing to the rich gold find which promises to be a wonder It states that some years ago geologists who camped at that point for some three months in their report claimed that from the properties con tained in tlie waters of those geysers I that there could not be any doubt but that gold was being precipitated with in thirty or forty feet from the sur face This claim was further sub stantiated by geologists sent out from the California State University At that time the springs were spouting from thirty to forty feet in the air the water being about 140 degrees With the construction of the Sutro tunnel many of these springs became extinct and it was while boring for an extinct spring that the discovery of the rich prospect was made Owing to the peculiar formations into which he had run Mr Hopkins decided to have the rock assayed the result being a value of $2000 and over to the ton
