We are custodians and trustee for a while of His property and of the good gifts He has entrusted to us. That is why we must render back: again, to His work in the world, some portion of what we have received, and why the Christian has to be concerned. THE LESSON 1. Danger in lust for wealth, (I Tim. 2.

To live lor godliness (vss. 11-16). 3. Advice for the wealthy (vss. 17-19).

1. LOVE OF MONEY In his letter to Timothy, St. Paul speaks of the Christian attitude toward possessions. He reminds his assistant that as we brought nothing into this world, neither can we take anything out, and that we should be content, therefore, with what we have. It is the love of money, not money itself, that "is the root of all evils." And this is the reason why many in covetous desire have "wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with pangs." The Christian today faces the same problems, and needs a like warning.

2. FIGHT OF FAITH Rather than pursuing worldly gain, Timothy is urged to aim at "righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness." He is to spend his energy in "fighting the good fight of faith" and to keep himelf without reproach until "the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ." The Christian has more significant things with T.hich to occupy his time than in scheming and dreaming to get rich. He has been called to the greatest cause in the world, been enlisted in the highest conflict men can know, and if he has faith he can trust God to sup ply his needs. 3. SET HOPE ON GO! Christians in the Church had ta face the fact that there were then, as there are now, great inequalities in wealth.

Some were amply provided for; others had very lit tle. Christian believers with wealth were concerned with the same problem of salvation as their less- favored neighbors, and many wondered what they should do. Paul's counsel is that they should not set their hope on worldly goods but on God. They are to be liberal and generous with what they have, spending themselves in the performance of good deeds.
