uu a time for us to tell our Mother all the things we didn't tell her during the past year. Things like "Thank you love you." and "Here, mom, let me help For those of us who are blessed with a close Mother- Child relationship, this day will give us a chance to say, in a very special way, the things we should have said by our words and actions all year long. Those who are not blessed with this close relationship, should try to accomplish, in this one brief day, all the things they didn't do in the other 364. Sometimes we try so hard that we may seem insincere. But on this Mother's Day, make a conscious effort to repair all the neglect and broken relationships that may exist Certainly, you may not be able to erase all bitterness and alienation in one day, but you can make a start.

And once you start, continue to mend the fences on a daily basis. Then next year, when it's Mother's Day again, you can both celebrate the joy of having eflrhrthfir You can both honestly say, "I love you." Jessica Baggen Memorial Walk To be Sunday The family of Jessica Baggen gives heartfelt thanks to the many friends who have shown such love and support in our time of personal sorrow. Our family will meet at the Sitka National Historical Park visitor center on Sunday, May 12, 1996, at 2 p.m., for a brief memorial and quiet walk through Sitka National Historical Park. Anyone who wishes to share this time of peaceful reflection and hope is most welcome to join us. For those who aren't able to make the walk, but would like to express their sympathy, we suggest either joining us in the beginning, when a few words of remembrance will be spoken, or meeting us at the bridge for your own private tribute. This will be the only service for Jessica informal and outdoors just what she would have wanted.

Because parking is limited at the visitors center, Prewitt Funeral Home will be providing buses from the Centennial Building parking lot at 1:45 p.m. to the park. Buses will also be available for the return trip at the end of the bike trail. With love to our many friends and appreciation to the kind people of Sitka. From Jessica's Family Clergy Viewpoint The following was submitted by a member of the Sitka Ministerial Association.

By Rev. Norman Lindsay Assembly of God Since this coming Sunday is Mother's Day, I offer the following tribute to mother: She has never held a public office but influences decisions of everyone she knows. She has never made a movie or been on a TV program but can entertain by the hour. She may never have joined the PTA, but her childrene excel both academically and socially. She is more comfortable in the sewing room than in.

the board room. She would rather promote a friend than herself. She enjoys a cup of coffee with-a neighbor more than a night out on the town. She demonstrates principles moYe "than about therri. She lives her principles rather than She' these things and more.

She is mother. The words of our favorite proverb for this time of the year ends with the following: ''Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises hen-Many women do noble things, you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, -and beauty is fleeting; but a woman fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the ref ward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at city sate." Unitarians Set Service The Unitarian fellowship of Sitka will meet at 10:30 a.m'. on Sundav at 408 Marine St.

The program will feature Ward EI- dridge, who will present a talk on the "Influences of Science and Paganism on Modem Unitarianism." The meeting will be followed by a potluek lunch at noon. 12-4 Daily Sitka Sentinel, Sitka, Alaska, Friday, May Page 3 Memorial Planned for Jessica Irene Baggen, 17 Jessica Irene Baggen carried within her the independence and the free spirit of a true Sitka kid. Like her father, George Baggen, she was happy when she was out-of-doors and on the go, and she was completely at home on land or on the water. With her sisters Cory, Melissa and Amanda, she spent many happy hours with her parents on frequent fishing expeditions around the Sitka area. During these trips, Jessica liked to take off in the skiff on scouting missions, and she would occasionally catch a fish, but she was most happy acting as official boat cook, preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner for family and friends. Jessica learned to cook in the kitchens of her mom, Vicki, and her Aunt Diane, and was considering a career in the cooking field.

With Willie Nelson playing in the background, Jessica loved to prepare everything from sushi to fruitcake, and the a i i pie-making marathons were one of her favorite annual events. Jessica was a spunky girl who didn't give up easily. Recently her dog Sam disappeared in Aleutkina Bay. Two weeks of family rescue missions had found no trace of the animal. Then, when fellow Sitka boaters mentioned seeing a dog in the area, Jessica became determined to keep looking.

She convinced family and friends to set up a camp and continue the search. And as Jessica and a friend were putting up their tents, Sam appeared tired, hungry, and ready to come home. While attending school in Arizona, Jessica became interested in photography, recording both events at school and intriguing landscapes with her camera. While visiting the family of school friend Ayumi Kihara in Japan, Jessica enjoyed experimenting with various types of camera shots, showing her quirky sense of humor and fun as she explored a new culture. She loved to laugh, tease, and be silly with her cousins they braided each other's hair, baked cookies, and wore crazy sunglasses to the grocery store.

She loved nothing better than a good laugh especially if it were at the expense of her brother-in-law Joe or family friends Stan Eliason and Jensen Yocum. She could also be a good friend to her cousins when they needed some- '6'ne to listen, and.she was a loving and nurturing aunt to nieces Courtney and Jamie, and nephew Joey. Woven throughout all of what Jessie did in her life was her relation- 'With; her" sisters," Zpry', Melissa and Amanda. as weir four girls have played, shared, talked and worked together as only sisters can. They will miss her smile, her laugh, and her sense of fun.
