The defending South Jersey champions, which have lost only one game in the last five years, left town with a 9-7 winner over Pennsauken thanks to Warren Wolf, Jr's 25-yard field goal.

"Pennsauken is the best team we have played this season," Wolf said later, still wearing his 20-year old even for most of the first half, as Pennsauken held the visitors in check with South Jersey's top-rated defence (allowed 19 points), while moving deep into Dragon territory on its first two possessions offensively. Laverne Hicks pulled down a 36-' yard pass from lefty Will George (9-of-16, 182 yds), highlighting a drive which sputtered at the Dragon nine, and George went 38 yards down the left sideline to Paul Cuneo on the next series, just four plays before a fourth down pass from the Brick three arrived at Hicks at the same time with linebacker Doug Conboy, ending the threat. "We had opportunities. We should have scored twice," said Pennsauken coach Vince McAneney quietly outside the Indians' locker-room. "We didn't even think field goal because we were too close and thought we could score.

If we were on the IS, then yes, but not at the three." Charged up by the defensive stands, Brick (8-0-1) came back to go 47 yards in five pass plays by Cliff Janssen (7-of-13, 107 getting a Petitta's FG Lifts Camden Catholic; Holy Spirit Wins i xf-y 41-yard completion to Newsome, who lateralled to Joe Brodzik for a bit of razzle-dazzle and a 7-6 edge. Red Bank Catholic took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Lonnie Burgess bolted 64 yards to paydirt on the Caseys' first offensive play of the game, and Bob Largey followed with the conversion kick.

Camden Catholic (7-2), which will play Holy Spirit on December 6 for the South Jersey crown, capitalized on another Red Bank fumble to start their only touchdown drive. Pete Castelucci pounced on a fumble at the Casey's 20, and the Irish moved 80 yards for a score behind QB Pat O'Brien and leading rusher Bill Bowler (16 carries, 43 yards), who scored from the two, falling on his own fumble in the end zone. Red Bank dominated the second half, holding the Irish to one first down, but Camden Catholic's defense had Jim Coppola block a field goal attempt with 5:43 left in the third quarter when the Caseys were faced with a fourth-and-one situation. Twice in the fourth quarter, Red Bank was faced with fourth-and-one only to be stopped each time, once on the Camden ten at 7:28, and later at the 38 with 2:05 on the clock. O'Brien was 3-for-7 passing for 17 yards, and the Irish gained just 74 on the ground, while Burgess posted 72 yards, helping Red Bank to 183 rushing yards.

HOLY SPIRIT 14, HOLY CROSS 6 Holy Cross gained more yardage and had more first downs than host Holy Spirit, but had QB Carter Mc-Williams throw four interceptions, which proved costly in the Parochial A playoff defeat. Spirit (7-2) scored in each of the first two periods. In the first, Keith Goucklar returned a punt 41 yards and Rick LeVan's conversion kick made the score, 7-0. In the second, Goucklar picked off a McWilliams aerial attempt at the Lancers' 35 and returned it 28 yards to the seven, setting up Bob McDer-mott's three-yard scamper to the end zone. Spirit, the defending South Jersey champ in the division, penetrated to the Holy Cross five in the third stanza, but the scoring threat was thrown back and the Spartans were forced to punt from the 25.

Holy Cross' lone touchdown came as the result of a Spirit turnover, when Rob Rodolico recovered one of three Spirit fumbles at the Spartan 18, and later tallied himself from a yard away. Glassboro, Mainland Take Field Hockey Titles Mainland and Glassboro, South Jersey's two representatives in the NJSIAA state field hockey final yesterday at Mercer County Park, came home with championships. "The turnovers were the key," McAneney admitted. "You can't give them the ball four times to their none'. We were tired out there and reacting slowly on defense late in the game. After a Thanksgiving Day game with Toms River North, Brick will meet Millville in an effort to retain its Group Four crown on December 6th.

MILLVILLE 35, DEPTFORD 0 Deptford's offense could not get past the Thunderbolt's Mike Harris, who intercepted three passes and set up a touchdown with a fumble recovery to put Millville in the Group 4 final against Brick Township. Calvin Murray helped the South Jersey Conference South champs to their tenth straight victory with three TDs. The quick running back opened the scoring by racing 55 yards with a fumble recovery, and tallied the final two on runs of one and 30 yards. Harris' fumble recovery set up Murray's 30-yard score, and the Bolts, which moved to 309 yards offense, marched 63 for the final six points. Murray also returned a punt 35 yards to set up Rich Andres' (3-of-9 passing, 30 yards) one-yard plunge, and Ralph Esquilin capped a 70-yard march with a 20-yard run to the end zone, completing the scoring.

Deptford (7-1-1) had been unbeaten in its last ten outings and won the Olympic Conference American Division title, but were held to 86 yards offense and four first downs, while letting the Bolts, pour through for 279 yards on the ground. Southern's (6-2-1) only points came on Bob Walton's 88-yard kickoff return, following the Knights' fourth TD. The Rams' offense was shut down to 39 yards, while Broomell directed a 261-yard rushing attack which netted 23 first downs. Gloucester (6-3) which had won its last six games to qualify for the pa-lyoffs, had Jeff Lynch pick up 100 yards on nine rushes, and led the Bulldogs in first downs, 14 to 11, but was never in the contest, as Glassboro struck for the first four touchdowns, including three in a first quarter blitz. Curtis Barnes, recently returned from an injury, completed 5-of-15 passes for 75 yards, including a 25-yard TD to John Mancini, and ran 11 yards for the game's opening score.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 13-0 halftime edge, as Phil Weber (2-of-9 passing, 30 yds) directed the offense on scoring drives of 55 and 74 yards, getting scoring runs of one and yards by Greg Smallwood.

Smallwood rumbled to 138 yards on 29 carries, and his runningmate, Jerry LeMay added 122 on 16 attempts, including the final touchdown on a two-yard pop, capping a six-play, 23-yard march. Linahan, who has 132 points this season, sliced into the end zone in the third quarter, ending a 47-yard drive and Pleasantville's scoreless string which spanned the last seven games. Ocean City (7-2) was also thwarted in attempt to move through the air, as QB Joe Myers completed only two of a dozen aerial attempts and Linahan added another for a combined total of 25 yards. After a short Eastern punt at the end of the first period, Moorestown (7-1-1) moved 48 yards in five plays, sending Joe Speese across with the TD from six yards out with 11:41 left in the half. Jeff Masters followed with the conversion kick.

Eastern threatened twice in the second losing the ball on downs at the Quaker 18, and later at the 19 on a Vince Palumbo (21 carries, 72 yds.) fumble which was recovered by Greg Jones. Eastern finally hit paydirt in the game's final three minutes when Mike McGuckin threw a 24-yard halfback pass to Joe Strippoli after being set up by a 30-yard interception return by Steve Sherwood.
