Allan W. Rodgers Takes Mississippi State U. Post Dr. Allan W. Rodgers, associate dean of students and associate professor of education at Indiana State University, has been appointed as the new dean of student development at Mississippi State University.

The appointment approved last week by the MSU Board of Trustees is effective Aug. 1, 1971. In the new position which entails responsibility for educational and other programs outside the classroom, Dr. Rodgers will head a 23-member staff working with the counseling center, preadmission counseling, gifted students program, minority student programs, foreign students, fraternities and sororities, student government, Union building programs, intramural athletics, volunteer services, residence hall programs, advisers to student organizations, and religious groups. The position is a new one at MSU and was designed to coordinate the various programs serving students.

Dr. Rodgers has been on the I Indiana State U. staff for eight years, serving as dean of men from 1963 to 1968 and was appointed associate dean of students in 1968 with responsibility for the Office of Student Activ ities. He served for two years (1961-63) as dean of men at Hamline University, as assistant instructor of educational phy- chology at Michigan State University (1960-61), as director of men's residence halls at Ball State University from 1957-59, and as head resident in men's residence halls at Southern Illinois University to 1957. A native of Albion, 111., and a 1948 Albion Community High School graduate, he attended Eastern Illinois University in 1949-50, earned the B.S.

(1956) and M.S. (1953) degrees at Southern Illinois U. and the Ph.D. degree (1963) at Michigan State U. As an undergraduate student at Southern Illinois U.

he won six varsity athletii awards in football and track and was active in student govern ment and residence hall pro grams. He held a Gradual DR. ALLAN W. RODGERS Council Fellowship at Michiga State U. and a graduate fellow ship at Southern Illinois U.

i military veteran, he served a U. S. Army sergeant for 1 months in 1952-53. Dr. Rodgers holds member- hip in a number of professional ducational organizations.

As a member of the National Associa- ion of Student Personnel Administrators, he was co-chairman of the 1968 pre-conference, o-chairman of the national con- erence sponsored by NASPA and the Center for Research and Development in Higher Educa- ion of the University of Cali- brnia at Berkeley in 1968 and 1969, chairman and coodinator of the national conference sponsored by NASPA and the Companies Foundation in 1970, and a member of the NASPA Committee on Profes sional Standards and Develop ment. In 1969-70, he was on the executive committee of the In diana College Personnel Associ ation. Dr. and Mrs. Rodgers have two children, Heather Wynne 10, and Gregory Allan, 8.
