Gibson. Two other early families were the Humphries and the Harts. Indians roamed the section at that time, their presence adding a spice of danger to the hardships endured by the pioneers. In the late 1860s, Miss Eugenia Armstrong, spinster from Mississippi, started the first school in the Hart home. In 1870, she built a house of her own and taught in it.

The school grew and years later it was attended by students from Bogata, Clarksville, Johntown and other points in that area. Many of the students became prominent in state affairs later in life. The first cotton gin was built in 1871. Horses and mules provided the power, and about one bale a day was the capacity of the crude machinery. The first steam gin was built'by Sid Smith.

Two other gins were built later, by a Mr Holder and a Mr. Walker. Roligous services probably were held in homes during the early days of the community, for Mr. Gibson's history records the first preaching by a Rev. McCulioch, a Baptist preacher who held several services under an old mill shed in the community.

The first Method- isl preacher was the Rev. L. F. Palmer, who preached every first Sunday while the Rev. McCulloch preached every fourth Sunday.

The same preaching days are said to be kept by both denominations. The two churches were built some time between 1870 and 1880 The Baptist Church is still on the same lot. It was wrecked several years ago and built back In 1936. The old Methodist Church building was torn down in 1923 and a new one built. Powderly. Answer; Too many to enumerate 100 species. Some are annuals, some perrennials, some low, some tall, some coarse, some fine. Kentucky 31 is a tall specie. Question: You seem to think the Red River Valley is overflowing with milk and honey, cotton and money.

Answer: According to the V. S. Weather Bureau, the answer is "nope." But' many wise people argue otherwise. Indians used to watch the crescent moon before going on the warpath or on a hunting trip. If the horns of the moon were turned up enough so they could hang their bows or powder horns on them, they figured the moon was "wet" and they stayed iome and maybe baby sat.

If the moon was dry the Indians would go on a tear. Question: Just what is a bull bat? It is a distinct species or is it the male bat of any species? Roxton.
