(' Both shields probably were carved in the late 19th-or early 20th century, according to Jim Buckley.

The other shield 'might appeal to somebody who Already has a Latin motto of hs own and is looking for some place toi put it: The ribbon where it should be inscribed is blank. The auction of Channel 48's equipment and furnishings will be conducted by local auctioneer Allen Gross and by Broadcast Equipment Brokers, a company that specializes in the sale of used television equipment. Rick Maze, manager of the Birmingham, company, says most of the bidders will be television-station representatives from as far away as Louisiana. He says they will be By David lams Inquirer Stalt Writer A page from Pennsylvania's early history will go on the block in Lans-dale tomorrow, when a deed signed by William Penn and dated 1685 is put up for bid. Meanwhile, bidders with a partiality for symbols of a more distant past can go for some elaborately carved wooden coats of arms at a sale in Philadelphia today, and those with an eye to the present can jot down the date Jan.

25, when the equipment of the defunct television station Channel 48 will be sold. The William Penn deed is one of two that will be sold by the North Penn Auction Gallery at an auction to be held at Lansdale's Fairmount Fire Co. building, Line and Susquehanna Avenues. North Penn president John H. Glenn said several dealers had looked at it "and they all agree it's authentic." He thinks it may fetch The deed an indenture, in more proper terms transfers 500 acres of ground to one John Dwight, Glenn said, although he could not discern from the handwritten text where the tract was located and he has no idea who John Dwight could have been.

"It does mention the Delaware River and it gives a latitude and longi- tude," Glenn said, "but we couldn't pinpoint it." The 20-by-25-inch indenture is on vellum and is in "mint condition," Glenn said. "It came from the estate of a lady by the name of Lucretia Towne Gartrell, and we found it in a bureau of hers wrapped in linen." Found in the bureau with it were five samplers from the years 1787 to 1818, which also will be sold at tomorrow's auction. The earliest is signed by Elizabeth Rakestraw, while those dated 1808, 1813, 1814 and 1818 are signed by Elizabeth and Sarah Lancaster. The auction, which begins at 1 p.m. and offers an inspection period beginning at 11.30 a.m., also will feature a deed 1864 and signed by J.

John Thomas, "the high sheriff of Philadelphia," Glenn said. He said the deed does specify a location in the city: an area in the vicinity of 17th and Cherry Streets. The medieval-looking coats of arms being offered at today's regular bi-weekly auction at the Fine Arts 2317 Chestnut should appeal L-. iir ,,,.1 I IN THE MARKET for elk horns, two South Korean commodities brofcsrs inspect the offerings at an auction in Jackson, Wyo. Once the annual auction attracted only tourists, but the horns arejprized as an "elixir of life" in the Far East, resulting in an increased demand and inflated prices.

Auction Page looking for TV-equipment bargains, such as the station's seven-meter satellite pickup system, an item that, when new, sells for $110,000. "The most interesting thing to local people will be all the furniture," Maze said yesterday. "There are about 300 pieces enough to furnish about 20 offices and they will be auctioned as one lot." Other items at the auction will include videotape machines, color monitors, test equipment and a couple of cameras. The studio props, Maze said, "would be included wilh the furniture." Exhibition will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jan. 24 at the station, 3201 S. 26th St. The auction begins at 10 a.m. on Jan.

25. Last Saturday's auction column referred to Fruchter Industries Inc. without noting that the kitchen- and bathroom-interior distributing company no longer belonged to the Fruchter family. Adolph Fruchter Sons sold the company, along with the name, in 1978, according to II. L.

Fruchter. The article also said that the firm had gone bankrupt. Although it was sold to satisfy the account of a bank, Fruchter Industries never filed for bankruptcy.
