"Freedom" says the Filipinos believe the Americana never sleep. Jn the entrenchment line along the south from the bay to Pasig, the N. Dak. regiment was between battery 13, 6th Art. and one battalion of the fornia volunteers.

Corporal Ben RUBsell was among the list of men detailed at the quartermasters corral. About300 bull teams and 400 coolies are used for distributing supplies to the various mands in Manila and to the troops in the front. In addition there are 350 bull teams and 250 coolies in the field. sides there a large number of mules and and riding horses. Trains on the road are run direot to the tiring lines.

The boys are witnessing some stirring soenes and some sad ones. A number of the members of company N. saw the drowning of Adolph Kolplen, who attempted to swim the Paeig to get a boat. The current was too etroDg. He was warned of the danger but strapped his olothes on his back and made the attempt with the fatal result.

Ibe Washington regiment put in a part of their time in digging np concealed gold and silver in and about Pasig. A correspondent writes the following complimentary notice of the North kota troops: Editor the 'Frisoo pers which came by the last mail, special mention was made of the work done by the 14th Inft. on the 5th of February, but nothing was said of the North kota volunteers. This is not treating the boys of that gallant organization fairly. They were on the right the 14th in the hottest of the fight and they certainly deserve praise for the way they acquitted themselves. They charged just BB gallantly and fought just as heroically as diet the 14th, and if the 14th won laurels on that memorial day, they more than won laurels, handioapped as they were with long toms.

Being soldiers, we oannot without a murmur, receive all the credit for a viotory that was equally shared by those brave volunteers. When the history of this battle is written no 14tb man will object if the uame of the North Dakotas is placed above ours. Our only prayer at present is: eral, we beseecn thee to arm the North Dakotas with Krag Jorgensene date them with the 14th Infy. as the Volunteer Regulars Flying squadron, or any old thing send us to the oft taken oity of Paranaque on a missionary trip. Leave our reputation there to guard and police the city.

Then eecd as to the final ball at Malolos. Try as then, and and see if we are found wanting, and then, General, and not till then, will we be willing to go home. A 14th Regular. Pasay, P. Maroh.

Endland's greatest newspaper, the London Times, pays a glowing tribute in recent issue to American railroads. Among other tbinga it says: In thing that makes railway traveling safe, rapid and convenient America ie the only country which oan dispute our English primacy.

While, for example, English signaling methods have set the standard it is to Amerioa we owe matic brakes and sleeping and dining oars. Within the last few years, over, American railways and their servioe have improved more rapidly than their English rivals. A splendid illustration of this was the inaguration of the "Pioneer Limited" trains of the C. M. St.

P. Rv, between St. Paul, Minneapolis and Chioago a year as the only perfect trains in the world. The equipment of these trains are the finest ever built. Tourists from abroad have been quiok to approve the accommodations for jour neyirg afforded in America and larly un the through trains of the ern railway already mentioned.

SOME CHANCES Train to Be Oft'aiul Time ot Number 1 Shortened. A number of okanges will take place, acoording to reports, on the Northern Paoiffo about May 20. The Oooperstown-Fargo train will be discontinued as the same is considered unprofitable. An unconfirmed rumor has it that other train will be put on between Jamestown and Fargo to take the place of the Cooperstown-Fargo train, but this is not at all probable. The time of train number one will, it ia reported, be shortened up five hours.

This will be done for the purpose of meeting the new time made by the Soo to the coast. The Soo will change its schedule this month and reduce the time to the ooast from Minneapolis 13 hours. The coast train will leave St. Paul in the evening. The east bound train will be changed and arrive in St.

Paul in the morning instead of the ing as at present. A Refreshing Style. The art of quotation requires delicacy in practice. An already famous firm has originated and developed into very promising advertising a mass of old, quaint proverbs We refer to Messrs. C.
