8, tender our thanks to Mr. Alfred Tyler; General, Superintendent of the South Carolina R. for an "4 over his road for the current year. We learn that at a meeting of the Charleston Dental Association, held Dec. 15, 1872, Dr.

R. S. Whaley was unanimously elected corresponding member. of the intensity of the late Asevidences cold spell, milk, oil, whiskey, and other things were frozen. The cold snap has terminated with an old-fashioned rain.

We invite attention to Messes. Kinsman Howell's of Mapes' Nitrogenized Superphosphate of Lime, and Ammoniated Bone Superphosphate of Lime. Lovelace Wheeler are agents for these well known and extensively used fertilizers. We learn that the militery post at Laurens is to be broken up. Company I of the 18th Infantey, Captain Keeler, will return to Columbia, and the cavalry, under Lieut MeIntosh are to be withdrawn to Newberry.

NOTICE TO TAX are authorized to say that the time for collection of taxes has been extended 20 working days from the 15th of this month, and which will the 8th of February. After which expire on in all probability the penalty will attach. Among the taxes proposed to be raised in France was one 02 musical instruments, which was to be levied in proportion 10 the noise they emitted. ACCIDENT.

-Mr. Wm. Glenn, of Laurens while on a visit to this place, ally shot himself on Thursday last, though not seriously, we are glad to say. Itappears that inserted his bands in his pants' of money, and in drawpocket to get a piece ing it out hastily, a small deringer pistol was discharge, the ball from which enmade to the groin passed down into the thigh, tering from whence it was cut out by Dr. Garmany.

MARKED -The extensive and popalar house of Messrs. R. C. Shiver whose interests are so profitably and agreeby Mr. H.

E. Bruce, bas ably looked after marked down its remaining Stock of Dress Goods, Shawls, Skirts and Millinery, and the public are advised to! make note of this, as promised. The stock thus bargains are marked down is extensive as well as elegant, and of great, variety. THE our last issue we in this latitude some of have experienced bitter weather on record. On Satthe most and Sunday the freeze penetrated close urday while the keen biting wind insinadwellings, itself not only through cracks and erevated almost through solid walls.

We regret to learn that a son of Mr. Dennis Lark died a few days ago, and also an interlittle girl, the daughter of Mr. William esting Lake, both we believe of the above named disease.

We add with regret that a large amount of sickness prevails outside of MAJ. J. B. The well-known business qualiof this gentleman eminently fit him for ties position of this kind, and we are confident a he will discharge the onerous duties of that this office with satisfaction to all who are interested in the Carolina National Bank.

indomitable and untiring worker is the afa. jor. GOOD "Josh" gets off good thing sometimes. His advice to young men wanting to marry is, that after Anding a "and out all about her mother, see if girl, to she har got a heap or good common sense, study well her likes a and dislikes, eat sum ov her -made bread and apple dumpnotis whether she abuzes all or her lins, nabers, ask her servants how long they lived thare, and don't fail tew observe whether her dresses are last year's ones, fixt over. If you are satisfied that the mother would make the right kind ov a mother-in-law, ya kan safely konklude that the dauter would make the right kind or a wife." NO NEED OF occupation's almost gone, as the girls will discover by the following paragraph: inventions always tend to modify, if abolish, old institutions.

Free love, dinot vorce courts, and co-operative boarding houses bad already made fearfal inroads into the domsin of matrimony, when some man, having no reverence for the institution, with malign ingenuity managed to get out for shirt buttons, that can be put on patent with a screw device, instead of womanly Angers. With this driver, it is argued in anti-Benedictine quarters, the last necessity for a wife has gone. RET. H. W.

KoaNs. -This gentleman, who has accepted the pastorate of Luther Chapel, is thus kindly noticed in his departure from Omaba, by the Journal: "The people of this city and state will learn with deep regret that bfr. Kuhns is about to transfer the scene of his labors to South Carolina. His long residence here, his unblemished life, his abilities as a pastor, aud his uniform success, rendered him years the most prominent among the many ministers of Omaba. By hundreds he renot only with interest, but with love.

Though pastor of the Lutheran Church be was looked as the common counsellor and friend, and in addition to his ordinary pulpit work performed tasks usually deputed to four or five occupants of the ministerial office. Few men can boast of a pastorship in the west extending without interruption through fifteen years. It betokens his possession not only of all the qualifications demanded by the! high office, but of those natural qualities of disposition and character which endear others to us.

Mr. Kahns goes with our best wishes for his future prosperity, and we know that in the views we have expressed we bave only given faint expression to the sentiment which pervades this entire community." APPOINTMENT. The Governor has appointed Mr. Warren D. Feagle, of Newberry, Notary Public.
