Mo. Martin family left Godfrey nlimber of years ago. ''The funeral be held Saturday at the family home in St. Louis, and liiterment will bo in the Godfrey cemetery. The time of the funeral has been set, neither the time when the body will be brought to Godfrey.

TJetalls will be arranged and announced on Friday. CDULEOE RECEPTION WAS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR. Faculty And Many Alton Friends At Carnegie Library Last Night. The reception given last evening at the Bhurtleff College Carnegie library by the faculty ol the Institution proved to be one of the most successful and enjoyable social affairs given at the "school In 'years. 'The faculty members arranged the recepttbn and they gave It for tbe the resident membera 'of of trustees.

"In to 'these, there were many" Alton friends of the school preSfent, The library was beautifully decor ated with all kinds of flowers, mostly palms, ferns and vines. An orchestra made up of college students played all evening during the reception and the very large crowd that attended appeared to enjoy the 'evening immensely. In the receiving line were Dr. and Mrs. G.

Refreshments were served In the latter part of tbe evening. Drum Corps Is In Demand.

The drum corps which has been rendering such good service in Alton in the last few years, is beginning to be in demand in Alton's neighboring towns. Tho management of the drum corps has already received invitations for the organization to take part-in thei parrdea to be held on Memorial Day in several neighboring places and whenever the drum corps can fill Return Thlt Evening. Tha Wood River cltfb women will return this evening from Colltnsville where they attended a two days' meeting of the Federation of Club women from the Twenty-Second Con- grewlonal District. A large party of friends surprised Mr, and Mrs. George Dumuch last evening la honor of their wedding, which took place two weeks ago.

The guests brought presents of cut glass and linens which they gart to the couple for wedding gifts. A pleasant evening was spent by the surprised host and hostess, well as by their many friends. A large number of Wood River reel dents motored to Alton last evening to attond the minstrel snow given at the Tempto Theater by tbe Daughters of Isabella. The show pleased the which packed the building. Choir Rehearsal Tonight. The choir of St. Bernard's Church will hold a rehearsal this evening a Songlar hall.

STATE ROAD ROUTE NEAR COMPLETE Only Five-Eighths of Mile Remains to Be taken, and Contracts May Be Awarded; Tho securing ot the right of way for the slate, aid road between Wood Rty- er and Granite City been completed except for a strip five-eights of a mile In length where it Is planned to have a short cut to avoid going through Oldenburg. Three owners ot the land In Ibis strip have BO far failed to make any agreement that la acceptable to the road committee of tho County Board of Supervisors and they have passed It up to the Stata Highway Department. It is declared that for the right way o2 this five-eights of a mile an aggregate of $26,000 is being demanded by the land That section of the road will be let alone, for the time being, Is said, and the contracts will be awarded for building the road on each side ot the gap, letting tbe remainder stand until the right of way can be condemned.
