Committed to Dona va ti waa arrested and brought before JohnBton last evening, charged with having committed an aggravated assault on his wife. Mrs. Donovan appeared before the Justice and gave a clear statement of the difficulty between her husband and herself. Whisky was at the bottom of the affair as it Is in nearly every similar case. after hearing the evidence, deemed it sufficiently strong to hold the unnatural husband to bail for his appearance at the October term of the circuit court, remarking that, notwithstanding it was a case of unprovoked assault, he would require bond In the sum of one hundred dollars, only.

ThlB, Donovan was unable to give, and in default was committed lo jail to await his trial at the time above mentioned. The parting words between the two were few and to the point. "This is Ihe last time that womnn will aonrl ma tn inll irrnwlml the husband. "God be wid ye," retorted the wife, when each started toward their respective destinations, the one to other, home. Bethany College.

For several weeks an advertisement of this insti- tution has appeared in onr columns. So frequently have favorable notices of Bethany College been found in the Intkllioenckr, that it would seem to be a work of supererrogation to add one more to the number. Still thefuct that we have such a superior institution located in our young having an almost national reputation for thor- ougbness in instruction, kind discip. line and comprehensive curriculum, should be brought to the attention not only of our own people, but of those everywhere who have sons to educate. To our citizens, especially, we would say, there is no longer any necessity for sending your sons abroad to get an education.

A thorough classical and English course of full and competent and well ar- healthy and acces- aible point, are some of the advantages to be fonnd in connection with the Col- i lege located at Bethany. Send for a c.ualogup to Rev. W. K. Pendleton, President, or to Prof.

THE BEAT THE ('IIKAPENT rpHE EXTENSIVE USE OF THESE Watches by Railway Conductors, Engineers, and Kxpreomeu, the exacting class of watch-weaiers. has thoroughly demonstrated the strength, steadiness durubi- Uty, Pint accuracy of the Waltham Watch. To Mitisfy that class in all these respects is to decide the question as to the real value of tnese More than are speaking for themselves in tie pockets of the people. imported watches are madoou an expen- nive in small nnmbent, but by nu- 1 merous makers, and are placed in the market here by an Importer who first secures a Monopoly of Sale of some one Manufacture. To the Manufacturer's profit must be added Cost of Importation.

A Custom-house duty of 25 per cent, payable In Gold. A profit of at least 25 per cent to the Importer, another profit to the jobber; thus nearly doubUng the cost of the Imported watch. At Waltham, Watches are mannffcottyred on a large scale, under one roof and system i of supervision and management, thereby saving many of the expenses necessarily in- curred in small establishments; hence their great cheapness. All respectable dealers now tell Waltham Watches, and competition, as all the world knows, is favorable to small profits. Tbe trade is satisfied, because, though the profit on each watch is small, the demand is large 1 and all are salable.

Unscrupulous Importers occasionally, place a worthless Swiss imitation in the market. To avoid imposition, the purchaser shonld Invariably demand a certificate or genuineneacstgned by the treasurer of the American Watch E. KOBBLNB. RP.RRY. $BefliraI. GREAT NEW ENGLAND White Pine Compound TS NOW OFFERED TO THE AFFLICTED tliroughout the country, after having been proved by the test of eleven years. In tbe New England Btates, -where its merits have become as well known as the tree from which, In part, It derives its virtues. The Wlilte Pine Compound Cares Sore Throat, Colds.

Coughs, Dlptheria, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, and Pulmonary Affection? generally. It is a remarkable Rcfnr irtiinav rAmnlnlnh. dlf Acuity of Voiding Urine, Bleeding from the Kidneys and Bladder, Gravel, and other complaints. The White Pine Compound. was early in the spring of that this compound was originated.

A. member of my family was afflicted with an irritatiou ef the throat attended with a disagreeable cough. I had for some months previous thought that a preparation having for its basis the inside bark of white pine might be eo compounded as to be very useful in diseases of the throat and lungs. To test the volue of It in the case alluded to, I compounded a small quantity ol the medicine that 1 had been planning, and gave it in teaspoon ful doses. The result wan exceedingly gratifying.

Within two days the irritation of the throat was removed. the cough subsided and a speedy cure was Hoc ted. Soon alter this, I sent some to a lady in Londonderry. N. 11., who had been sulleiing for some weeks lrom a bad cough, occasioned 1 a sudden cold, and had raised mucus streaked with blood.

She soon found relief an sent for more. She took about teu ounces of it, and well. J. B. Clarke, ed tor of the Manchester Ually Mirror, made a trial of the same preparation in the case of a severe cold and was cured immediately.

lie was so highly pleased with the results, and ho confident of success attending its sales, if placed before the public, that ne llntdiy pursuadedme to give it a name, and send it abroad to DeneflL the suffering. In November, 1855, 1 first advertised it under the name of hite Pine Compound. In two years from that time there had been wholesaled in Manchester alone one hundred dollars worth, where it took the lead of all the cough remedies in the market, and it still maintains that position. There Is good reason for this; it is very soothing and htaling in its nature; is wanning to the stomach and pleasant withal to the taste, and Is exceedingly cheap. "am a remedy for kidney complaints the White Fine Compound stands unrivaled.

It lint Irtf thai niinWUP. lint ft person In uning It foracoofli wus not only cured ol tbe cough, bnt was also cured ol a kidney difficulty of ten years standing. Since that accidental discovery many thousands I have used It for the same complaint, and have been completely cured." The above was written by Dr. Poland, In 1 Still. Since then, as In Manchester, the White Compound has taken the lead of all Cough remedies, as well as a preparation lor the cure of Kidney difficulties.

In every city, town, vl and hamlet throughout the New J2ngland States. The remedy is as tafo and pleasant to take as it Is effectual. The White Pine Compound. PHEPARED AT THE New England Botanical Depot, BOSTON, Under the Supervision of Rev. J.
