Voorhees, formerly of this county, died in Harrisonburg, last Wednesday, aged 7o years. Wall Horsey were receiving turkeys yesterday by the hundreds, and will to-day probably make the largest shipment of poultry ever sent from this place. The Summit Point M. E. Sunday School will have a Christmas Tree on Monday night, December 20th.

The children will be addressed by Rev. Mr. Wood. The man that dreamed he dwelt in marble halls did not feel half so happy as the one that purchased a fine Gold Watch at C. W.

Hostler, Lee II. Dillow, Emanuel Dillow, Franklin Medlar, Win. Buzzard, Israel Ott and John Ott were appointed by the Circuit Court trustees of Mount View M. E. Church South.

The Ivabletown Sunday School is preparing for an entertainment some time in January, which promises to be a grand affair. The committee in charge of it are making every effort to render it a success. Thomas Myers, colored, desires us to note that his wife, who lias been under treatment in Home, New York, for some weeks past, has had a cancerous formation extracted from her face, and will be home shortly. The Swampoodlers are to parade in Cliarlestown at 10 o'clock A. M.

on Monday, December 20, The Committee propose to make this parade more gorgeous and extensive than any that has preceded it, and if that is accomplished our country friends will be afforded a rich treat by coming to town next Monday. Personal Mention. Hon. D. B.

A pension has been granted to Susan, widow of James Hanes, of Harper's Ferry. Mrs. C. Frank Jones has gone to spend the polidays with her parents, in Baltimore. Miss Laura Hughes has returned from a visit to relatives in Staunton and Winchester.

Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Dawson have returned to Claymont" after a prolonged absence.

Miss Virgie Swan has gone to spend the winter with relatives in Washington City. Mrs. Alice Bowers, of Shepherdstown, has been visiting her sister Mrs. Frank Myers. Mrs.

Frank Myers has returned from a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Boggs, on 4th st, N.

E. Washington City. Mr. George Schameal, of St. James, and Mr.

Henry Schameal, of Sharpsburg, paid a brief visit to the family of Mr. Charles Kable. Prof. J. S.

Renner, who has recently undergone a thorough course of study in music under an eminent eastern professor, has returned home, and will hold a series of musical conventions in this State and Virginia. The Presbyterian Sunday School will have a Christmas Tree in Washington Ilall on Friday evening of holiday week. Admission to the Ilall, to others than members of the school, will be by card of invitation. The ICearneysville Presbyterian Sunday School will have a Christmas tree on Wednesday evening, December 28, and the Reformed Sunday School of the same place will have Christmas exercises on Sunday night, December 25. Mr.

Townslienci Frazier, father of M. Thomas Frazier of this place, and an extensive Loiuloun county grazier, received about 325 head of cattle from Chicago last They were taken from the B. Walker, near town, was arrested on Monday by Sergeant Voting, and by Justice Ilowell was committed for the Grand Press. Henry Dumm offers to purchasers at his store a decided beautiful, mammoth doll, which has been handsomely dressed by the Misses Ware, and a ehance in the drawing of which is given with every purchase of Toys to the amount of 25 cents. The Oakland Sunday School will give an Exhibition on Tuesday night. December 27th. Admission 20 children 15 cts.

Burglars are operating in Charleston, W. Va. A few nights ago an attempt was made to enter the house of Mr. Clarence Potterfield, formerly of Harper's Ferry. A face appeared at the window about eleven o'clock, and Mr.

Potterfield fired a pistol shot at the trespasser, but missed his mark. The ladies of Middleway M. P. Church will hold an Oyster- Supper in the Masonic Hall at Middleway on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, December 22, 23 and 24, beginning at 7 o'clock. Proceeds for the benefit of the Church.

Frank McGee, who has bee'li with his family on a visit to Mrs. McGee's parents in Pennsylvania, returned last Wednesday, and preached in the Baptist church here on Sunday. He will return to Fenn? sylvania this week. From Middleway. Dr.

D. W. Border, of Kearneysville, delivered his interesting lecture on the "Identity of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel with the EnglishSpeaking Races," in Grace Church, on the 14th. Close attention Was paid to his address, his theory being a novel one to many in this vicinity. The season of oyster suppers is at handt The ladies of the M.

P. Church will hold one on the evenings of the 22d, 23d and 24th, in Masonic Hall, and the ladies of the M. E. Church South will hold one in the same place on the 29th, 30th and 31st. Proceeds for the benefit of the church in both instances.

The Sunday Schools of the M. E. Church South and of the M. I1. Church will appropriately celebrate Christmas on the evenings of the 26th and 27th, respectively.

Howard, who survives him. In 1871 he moved to Jefferson where he has been engaged in farming. He was open and honest as an enemjtrue and warm in his friendships, kind generous as a neighbor, strongly Southern in his feelings and an Unflinching Old Line" Democrat. Truthful and upright in his dealings with his fellow man, he de spised deceit and hypocrisy. He leaves a widow, a son and two daughters, and ft large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss.
