Our last storm, for wind, exceeds anything ever known here for tho length of time that high winds blow. From 4:15 P. of the 19th, to 4:15 P. of the 20th, 10 miles of wind passed over this city, or an average of nearly 27 miles per hour for the entire 21 hours. From 4:15 P.

of tho 10th, to midnight of tho 19th, thero was 214 miles of wind, nearly an average of 27 miles per hour for the 10 hours. From midnight of tho 19th, to 0 A. thero was 150 miles of wind, or an average of 20 miles per hour. During the 10 hours from iA. the 20th, to 4:15 P.M., of the 20th, there was 270 miles of wind, an averngo during last 10 hours of storm of exactly 27 miles per hour.

For tho fivo minutes, that is from 8:15 P. the 19th, to 8:20, of tho 19fh.it reached a max-iraum of about 50 miles per hour, and it must be borno in mind that this high velocity was with a wind blowing from the northwest this city being very much sheltered by tho land and heavy forests to the West and northwest The fnlfforce of this heavy storm could not have been felt until a person had reach ed near the middle of Lake Huron and I do not think I would be ex aggerating If I should sav the wind reached a velocity of from 60 to 75 miles per hour, outside of tho excellent harbor of Thunder Bay. S. A. A. N. Sprat t'n New Residences.

Tho new residences built by A. N. Spratt, on Hitchcock street, are about ready for their occupants. The three residences are as neat and commodious as any in the city and especially tho one at the cor ner of Second and Hitchcock streets, which is a model for beauty, convenience and comfort. On tho ground floor is the parlor, dining room, kitchen, etc.

Tho parlor, by means of sliding panels, can be converted into two separate rooms, in one of which is a fire place. The dining-room is convenient to tho parlor and kitchen, and has all the conveniences necessary. The kitchen is large, and has among other conveniences a pump for raising water out of tho cistern, and is supplied with water from the Alpena City Water Works. In the basement is a furnace for heating tho bouse, and a number of flues carry the heat to the various rooms in both stories. The cellar is large and affords ample stowage room.

The upper story is reached by two stairways one leading to the front and one to the rear of the house. Tbe bed rooms are all op-stairs, and are commodious and well lighted. The painting and graining of the rooms and doors is first class and artistically done. Many of the rooms have neat center ornaments on the ceiling from which chandeliers may bo suspended. Taken altogether, Mr.

Spratt has three as commodious and comfortable residences as any in the city. The carpenter work was performed by Campbell McDonald. The corner building we under stand Is to be occupied by II. u. Churchill, the next by J.

W. Fitzgerald, and the third by F. H. Sweethearts and Wives, at the Ojera House, Dec. 3d and 4th.

Have an eye on Fanny Spritle Irish Assurance at the Opera House next week. "Sweetheart and Wives." We are pleased to announce that the Alpena Dramatic Club has secured the Opera House for Wednesday and Thursday evenings, December 3rd and 4th, when they will present the popular three act comedy 4'Sweethearts and Wives," and the roaring farce "Irish Assurance." These are both standard plays, in which somo of the best American and English comedians have distinguished themselves. Although rather heavy pieces for amateur performers, yet we believe the club will succeed in presenting them in a pleasing manner. The cast of characters we are assured is a strong one, and embraces the names of several of Alpena's favorites. This being the first dramatic entertainment in the new Opera House, we bespeak crowded houses for the Club, and a gay, grand, good time for the audience.
