Some years ago an American grammarian gave a congugation of the kiss as follows "Buss, to kiss rebus, to kiss again pluribus, to kiss without regard to the number syllabus, to kiss the hand instead of the lips blunder-bus, to kiss the wrong person omnibus, to kiss everybody in the room erebus, to kiss in the dark. A high school girl Class A being told by her teacher to parse the sentence ''He kissed me" consented reluctantly, because opposed to speaking of private affairs in public. "He," she commenced, with unnecessary emphasis and a fond lingering over the word that brought crimson to her cheeks "is it prououu, third person, singuliir number, musculine gender; (a gentleman pretty well fixed, universally considered a good catch); kissed is a verb, transitive, (too much so) regular, (every evening) indicative mood, (indicating affection) first and third person, and governed by circumstances. Me oh, everybody knows me," and down she went. Girls, take my advice, and dont try to catch Fred McPherson, because he is too much interested in some one at Sullins' College.

Mis Ida Peoples has returned from Johnson City altera very pleasant visit to her friend, Miss Lyle. So, you see, Miss Ida is not so "Keen" now. The letter from "The Speculator" is too deep. Won't the writer be more explicit Then "The Girl Who Sees" can answer your questions. Does John Bowman live in Jonesboro or Johnson City Parties desiring to see him never know where to find him.

We are certain that he can be found in Jonesboro on Sunday. I wonder if Miss Bertie saw any of her friends beside "Old Grover" while she was in Washington Tbeo Hacker says he is saving up his monev to go to the World's Fair. We don't suppose he means to purchase two tickets we hope not, for it would be with reluctance that we would give Theo up, he has added so jnuch to our society in the way of getting up so many receptions. I heard a young lady remark that she thought Arthur Hacker was real charming. Wouldn't Arthur like to know who said this.

The farmers are busy preparing for their spring crops; some are planting corn. Wheat is looking well in this section. The farmers are improve-ing their land. We have splendd school houses in this District Our worthy Directors manage to give children the advan tage of 8 to 9 months school each year, and at the same time make improve ments on the school property, The schools this year have been a success throughout Last 1'riday I had the pleasure of attending the closing exercises of the Union school conduc ted by Prof. J.

W. Hilbert, and Miss Lula White. It was the best I have ever had the pleasure of attending. The morning was spent in class work, followed at noon by an abundance of good things to eat prepared by the ladies of that section. All were invited to help themselvs, which we did hear tily.

I learned by the remarks of Mr. Hilbert that quite a number of students had not been absent from school a single hour during the term. One young lady, Miss Bessie White, had been in his school 400 days without being absent a single hour. She was awarded the gold medal for highest attainment in fifth grade. The evening exercises consisted of recitation by tbe children of the 1st, 2d and 8d grades.

Weldon Devault de livered the address. The night programme, was very entertaining the pieces were all new and well delivered. The most touch ing tableau was the execution of Cleopatra. But the sweetest of all was the music furnished by the school. Good order prevailed throughout Mr.

Hilbert and his assistant deserve much honor, and I hope the Lord will ever bless them iu their work. Citizen. BLUFF CITY. Easter was observed here in many ways. Miss Fannie Smith, of your town gave a most enjoyable reading at Zollicoffer Institute to a select and attentive crowd.

She certainly reads well, and we hope that success may crown her efforts wherever she may go. Misses Tessie and Juuo Thomas sang a very sweet duet. Saturday afternoon there was an "egg hunting" at the home of the wri ter for the benefit of the children attending the Baptist Sunday School. On Sunday evening there were some excellent recitations bearing on Euster, and a beautiful song sung by Class 4, taught by Mr. Lockhart Each child used a bell, keepi jg time with the mu sic, which added greatly to the rendition of the piece.

The entire exercise was good and the house was crowded to its utmost capacity. When a certain young lady receives her letter Earl she proceeds at once to memorize them without delay. Thank you, Madge; we have not stai ted yet, but will in May, for your village. J. M.
