A semi-public consistory approved unanimously today the canonization of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, of Chicago, who on July 7 formally will become the first United States citizen ever elevated to sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. The canonization of the nun who founded the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was indorsed by 20 cardinals and 40 archbishops attending the ceremony, at which three others Smith's sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna In iy saw gersoll Smith, widow of C. PENN STATE AIDED Judge Hunter, in another adludl cation, awarded the $5068 trust of Charles and Anna Smith to the Trustees of the Yearly Meeting of Friends and the Provident Trust Co for the use of the trustees of Pennsylvania State College. The fund is known as the "Morrell Smith Schol arship." were also approved for the sainthood. OTHERS CANONIZED They were Bernardino Realino, an Italian Jesuit who died in 1616; Joan Elisabeth Richier de Ages, co-founder of the Order of the Daughters of the Cross; Joao de Britto, Portuguese Jesuit martyred in India.

Formal celebration of the sainthood of all four will take place in St. Peters on July 7. Results of the open ballots cast by the prelates were read by Granito Pignatelli di Belmonte, dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals. Preceding the semi-public consistory was a secret one where, informed sources said, the Pope announced the appointment of almost 100 archbishops and bishops throughout the world. BORN IN ITALY IN 1850 Elevation to the sainthood for Mother Cabrini has been a foregone conclusion since the pleadings of her cause at a public consistory here on Feb.

21. In addition to her being the first United States citizen to be canonized, she will have the distinction of being sainted only 27 years after her death on Dec. 22, 1917 the shortest intervening period since papal courts have adjuged those worthy of sanctification. Mother Cabrini was born at San Angelo, Italy, on July 15. 1860, the 13th child in a prosperous Italian farm family.

Searchers Return Scattered $44,000 LIBERTYVTLLE. June 13 (AP). About $44,000, in crisp, new bills were scattered along the Milwaukee Railroad right of way today when a mail sack was sliced open by wheels of a train, but two hours later all but about $275 had been turned in by some 40 volunteer searchers. Police Chief Joseph Saam, who supervised gathering of the bills of denominations from $1 to $100, said, "we never had a bit of trouble all the people there were honest." Percy snow, a rural mailman, who had been cutting weeds nearby, grabbed a rake and used it to pile up the windswept bills like leaves. Mrs.

Evelina E. Carbutt, 5012 Greene who died June 1, be queathed her $20,250 estate to her children, John, Charles and Mrs. Ev elina C. Keyser. Her will was pro bated yesterday.
