LA ROES, Foreman of Grand Jury. The Grecno-eyed Monster. Florence Clark is a young, handsome and high-toned looking, and well-dressed octoroon living at No. 44 Pierson street. Josephine Adains, a little darker, not very good looking, and the motner of three or four children, lives in the same neighborhood.

Alfred Turner, a young mafi considerably off color, who wears good clothes, and follows tile river, has been living with Josephine for the past few years, anti is claimed by. Josephine as the lather of her children. Alfred has become tired of the somewhat faded mother, and has transferred hip affectioue to the piquant Fiorence, btit Bpi pays the rent for Josephine. This combination of domestic eircumstances has so preyed upon the high spirited and revengeful Josephine that sne has apparently become half crazud with jealousy. Sunday morning the inmates of the house at No.

44 Pierson street, were norrided and amazed at the sight presented by the front of the house, as higli up as you could reach with a broom, stoue steps and tile Uoor-bell were literally covered with filth. Pinned to the door jtm was a most scurillous, obscene anti iulautous note penned in blue ink. To say that the blooming Florence, her handsome mother and the tickle Allred were indignant et this would not half describe their state of mind. From the text of the and by comparing the writing with that in a letter which had been received by Alired while in Louisville, and before his affection had sought fresh fields and pastures new, at 01100 convinced them that the green-eyed monster had been at and that Josephine was guilty of this foul tietacement. bbe was arrested, and this morning appeared belore Judge Lindemann to answer that charge and one of threatening personal violence.

Being adjudged guilty on both counts, she was placed under bondsto keep the peacb, and as tined 8'25 and costs. his honor remaiked that the case was one of the most outrageous affairs he Had ever been compelled 16 listen to, but in consideration of She otnerivise good character ot the defend. act, and the fact that her young babe required her attentipophe would make hat punishment as liget as possible. IIChmnieles of the Pilgrim's Progress," by Charles Holmes, M.D.. published by C. Vent. 88 Fourth street, Cincinnati. This Is the title of a book Just issued in this city, which can, at least, claim the merit of a peculiar kind of originality at this literary epoch.

It is a sort of burlesque history or chronicle el all the Important events that have occurred in this country, or more especially In New England, since the landing of the Pilgrims up to the Centennial Celebration last summer. It affects the autique in style, or eomewhat In imitation of the language in whiell our present translation of the Scriptures is contained, though in a more free and flowing vein. In this homely guise a great deal of quaint humor Is discovered, and which is further heightened by numerous appropriate thustrations designed, as the titie page tells no, by the author himself. While this is a source of amusement to the reader, the chronologloal matter vvhich it contains will make a perusal of the volume both Interesting and remunerative. We are compelled to admire the style ol binding WW1 which the work is adorned.

This is unique in its way, and Your neat and durable; and the typographical execution is in all respects a credit to Cincinnati enterprise. .10 WRY is a man who marries the daughter of a boarding-house Keeper, like a man with a craft at sea having a cargo el soft soap? Irving was the only American, says a writer la the Troy Times, 11 kuew the contents of a volume, conceraing which an intense curiosty has beeu expressed.

The volume referred to has a strange history. A great but polluted genius, writhing under the verdict which society has expressed against him, wrote the memoirs of his own life, as au appeal which could not but be heard. It was to have the additional power of a voice uttered from (3 grave, for not VI its author should be dead was It to appJar before the world. Such was the ter of autobiographic memoirs. Having finished the work a few years before his death be gave it to his friend, Tom Moore, who, tuter the poet was in his tomb, sold it to John Murray tor guineasequal to $12,000.

This was the largest sum ever paid lor any work of the kind. After making the sale, Moore became convinced that its revelationa endaagered the character col Otilera to such a degree that its publication would be daugerous. Indeed, wilco the ammociation was made society was thrilled with surprise, and no doubt a tremel, dons influence was brought to bear on Moore demanding its suppression. Ile returned the priee to Murray. and perhaps the money was made up to him in a privalis manner.

At any rate, toe MSS. were burned. To come to tile point, it may be sa4 that, Irving and Moore were iutimate friends, tee latter consulted the former, who read the wora, Lunt, thereture, knew all Its straiige revelations. As the book was supprese 1 Irving never divulged those mysterious secret, coacerning which so many have oatin so intensely interested. It ntiv be added that the destructon MSS.
