The Stark County Welfare Department's food stamp supervisor, John McCall, said he is anticipating more food stamp applicants under present economic conditions. However, McCall said he did not attribute all of the increase to layoffs caused by the energy crisis. HE NOTED that the U.S.

Some welfare officials in northeastern Ohio counties say that apparently there has already been an increase in welfare applications due to the fuel crisis. A Summit County welfare department official says food stamp applications have doubled recently at the Macedonia branch. A social worker in that branch said most of the new applicants are auto workers laid off at Chrysler's Twinsburg stamping plant and at Ford Motor Co. plants in Cuyahoga County.

The Macedonia office normally receives about eight applications for food stamps a day, but up to 16 a day have been recorded recently, the social worker said. In Portage County, Welfare Director Sam Gagliardo said the layoffs "are starting to affect us." "We were unexpectedly busy the last week of the year," he said.
