Mr. Whaley, who is a speaker of recognized prominence in Northwest Arkansas, has chosen as his subject, "The Ozarks and Opportunity." It is Mr. Whaley's intention to bring out the diversified possibilities of the Ozark Region, not only in horticultural and agriculaural lines, but because of the advantages afforded by reason of cultural and climate.

He says, "That the steady growth evidenced during the past few years, is largely a direct result of the effort made by the Ozark Playgrounds Association to sell not only the visitor the wealth and beauty this region, but in making the resident cognizant of Ozark possibilities." Chicken pie supper Tuesday KEITH McCANSE COMING The Neosho Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is putting on a farmer-sportsmen luncheon at the Advertising club rooms Thursday evening, November 3rd, at which State Game and Fish Commissioner Keith McCanse is to be the principal speaker.

This meeting is to be in the nature of a get-together affair between the farmers and the members of the Izaak Walton league. The fact that interests of the farmer and the real, honest-to-goodness sportsman are identical in the matter of the preservation and propagation of game and fish will be stressed by Mr. McCanse and it is hoped it will bring about a better understanding between farmers and the Izaak Walton league so that both can work harmoniously together for the better conservation of the game and fish in this section of the country. An effort will be made to get a report from as many as possible of those who are in the propagation of pheasants. Contrary to the general belief, quite a start has been made in establishing the pheasant as a game bird in this vicinity.

About 750 eggs were distributed to the farmers of Newton county last spring, and while only a small proportion of these eggs produced mature birds i enough were matured to demonstrate that pheasants can be raised here and that their propagation on a large scale in Newton county is feasible. LEARN A NEW WORD EVERY DAY Today's new word: PAST MATRONS' CLUB The October meeting of the Pasl Matrons' Club was held last night as a party. The regular program of the club was held at five o'clock at the Masonic Temple and a delicious dinner was served at six o'clock with the Past Matrons as hostesses and their husbands as guests. Hundreds of young folks were on the streets last night until a late hour engaged in Hallowe'en pranks and celebrating. No serious damage seems to have resulted although many petty annoyances were in evidence this morning, such as boxes, wood, piled in the streets, gates and porch swings gone, flat tires on cars and other similar things.

Anyway it is fortunate the occasion comes but once a year. N.

McBee of Joplin, who said he captured Webb and Boswell at one of his resorts near Galena, after the two men had escaped from the Stone county jail early this year while they were awaiting trial on charges and sent to the Missouri penitentiary, where they admitted the Laster murder. No other claims were filed. The court said in granting the judgment that the claimants were entitled to the reward, since the prisoners had pleaded guilty to the charge, regardless of a question later raised as to whether the convicts' confessions were true. An additional $900 in rewards yet is to be apportioned. The $1,000 concerned in the suit decided yesterday was $300 offered by Jasper county, $300 by the city of Joplin and $400 from a subscription fund raised in Joplin.

The Joplin city fund and the $400 has been turned in for apportionment, it was stated. The county court has not as yet ordered a warrant drawn in payment of the reward offered by the county. The rewards not mentioned in the suit are $300 from the state of Missouri, $300 from the state of Kansas and $300 from Cherokee county, Kansas, where the murder occurred. FOOTBALL TO BE SHOWN AGAIN TONIGHT The pictures of the Missouri-Northwestern football game, which were shown at the Orpheum last night, will again be shown tonight. NEXT WEEK IS AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK American Education Week will be held from November 7 to November 13, inclusive.

The purpose of American Education Week is to acquaint the public with the actual work of the schools, with their ideals, their achievements, their needs. It is hoped that every parent will visit his child's school at least once during the week. The schools hope to benefit the entire life of the child and the whole life of society by working toward seven cardinal objectives, which have provided fitting subjects for newspaper and magazine articles. The seven objectives arc: 1. Sound Health.

2. Worthy home membership. 3. Mastery of tools, technics, and spirit of learning. 4.

Faithful citizenship. 5. Vocational effectiveness. G. Wise use of leisure.

RULE OF CONDUCT AT CROSSINGS LAID DOWN Washington, Oct. rule of conduct for automobiles and others who cross railroad tracks was laid down today by the supreme court in a case appealed by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad.

In setting aside a judgment in favor of the estate of Nathan Goodman, killed at Whitfield, Ohio, the court through Justice Holmes, declared that "when a man goes upon a railroad track he knows that he goes to a place where he will be killed if a train comes upon him before he is clear of the track. He knows he must stop for the train, not the train stop for him. "In such circumstances it seems to us that if a driver cannot be sure otherwise whether a train is dangerously near he must stop and get out of his vehicle, although obviously he will not often be required to do more than to stop and look. It seems to us that if he relies upon not hearing the train or any signal and takes no further precaution, he does so at his own risk." The court announced that it had laid down this rule of conduct for the control of all courts "once for all." LEAVING THE FOURTH OR FIFTH FOR CALIFORNIA. Can take man for driving half time.
