6- A tifr Friday Morning. May 12, Margaret Cancels Royal Duties il LONDON (UPI) Princess Margaret, who announced Wednesday from her hospital bed she was filing for divorce from Lord Snowdon, has canceled her royal duties for a month due to a mild case of hepatitis, a royal spokesman said Thursday. The princess had been admitted to King Edward VII hospital with suspected gastroenteritis. The spokesman said tests showed she also was suffering from the liver ailment. The spokesman said the princess, often criticized by members of parliament for not carrying her share of royal duties, had been advised by doctors not to resume official engagements for "about a month." The diagnosis, immediately relayed to Queen Elizabeth, relieved the royal family's anxiety over the basic health of the 47- year-old princess, who instructed her lawyers Wednesday to begin divorce proceedings against her estranged husband, the Earl of Snowdon.

Royal circles said the final breakup of her 18- year-old marriage came at a bad time for the princess emotionally as well as physically. She reportedly had hoped that despite their legal separation of March, 1976, she could delay the publicity bound to accompany a divorce until their two children Viscount Linley, 16, and Lady Sarah Armstrong- Jones, 14 were older. What changed her mind is not known but London society believes the pressure came from Snowdon, who is said to want to marry his television production assistant, Lucy Lindsay- Hogg, 33. When asked for comment Wednesday night, Snowdon would only say: "I do hope that Princess Margaret will get the encouragement and support which she may need when she comes out of hospital and resumes her royal duties." For the last two or three years that encouragement has largely come from her friend and vacation companion Roddy Llewellyn, a 32-year-old pop singer. But widespread public disapproval of the relationship which friends insist is not a romantic one may force her to see less of him.

The attack on Astarita was a carbon copy of the "kneecapping" technique practiced by the Red Brigades as an expression of the-r aim of bringing Italy "to Its knees." But this time two smaller groups the so-called Front Line Organization of Communist Combatants and the Fighting Communist Formation clai'ned responsibility for the attack in a communique left in a Milan telephone booth.

The attack appeared to bear out what Italian officials had feared might happen small lunatic fringe groups, inspired by the notoriety earned by the Red Brigades, may step up their own acts of terror.
