Oldham was born in India, and his early life was passed in that country, where ho was connected with a surveying party attached to the British government. Thn Rev. Dr. Cunningham introduced tho lecturer, who gave a fine lecture upon the climate of the country, and the habits religion of the inhabitants, endoavoriu? to present a picture of Jheir life as viewed bv Hindoo eyes. He n( uumnntliv for tho Ul UIU HWVM race, who wore descended from the same Aryan stock as ourselves, and told of the impossibility of a casual traveler reaching the true inner heart of the people.

Tho mythology of tbo Hindoo as illustrated by their historical boliels teenu with the doification of almost every natural aeent. Tho Himalaya mountains are regarded as the home of tho gods, and the rivor is believed to be the tress of the Hindoo goddess corresponding to the Venus of the Hindoo pantheon. The doctrine of is an old ono with tho Hindoo and the story of Brabrna, the creative agent of tho Bra minis tic deity, is accredited their sincere belief. The ciiniate of the southern portions is divided into two soasoits, the heated term and the rainy season. Purine the heated term vegetation is shrivoled up and tho tomperaturo is so high as to make life very miaorable.

Tho mountains, however, present every phase of life found in the temperate and frigid tones. Ho then devoted a short timo to a minute description of too dress and octal life of tho people, their manner of cooking and their food. The cloth ins problem is roduced to a very line system, the average annual coat of a woman's wardrobe not exceeding ten cents. Tho mon's attiro consists of a large turban and a email waist band, while tho dress of tho females is somewhat more elaborate. Tho village life atfd tho tales with which tho fathers regale their families in the evening, and the tricks and performances of a native circus were also described in a manner that wa9 very instructive, while the interesting manner in which it was told held the attention of the audience.

Tho Hindoos' belief in the transmigration of nouls makes them very careful not to harm anything possessed of life in the fear that a dear frieud may bo incarnated into that Doing. The speakor closed with a description of the responsiveness of the Hindoo heart to sympathy. The manner in which tho Hindoo becoiues enlisted in the cause of Christianity was depicted. They aro sometimes said to bo stoics, but when tho emotions hccotne aroused they aro very demonstrative. A brief account of the Brahmin theology whs given and tho different inombers of the Hindoo trinity were discussed.

"lired as a ichool teacher" would express the utter Innquor and collapsed that so few escape before the long weeks are over. Of all tho work open to girls and women, school teaching seems to wear hardest on brain and Each day is not able to make up for the nervous expenditure of the day before, and so there comes the usual result of norres hard worked but badly nourished; the frequent sick headache, loss of strength, no color in lips or cheeks, low spirits, nervousness, and a distaste for work. What is needed is at once plain to every physician's eye. Ho says at a glance: "Your nerves want more food." Get some rod cornuscles into vour thin red comusdea mean health. Paine'? celery compound will cause freah, ruddy blood to circulate through the veins, and will give an impetus to tho weakened digestion.

Thin people with deploted or impure blood, who are easily attacked by lung disease and chronic ailments, get strength ami an increase of solid, healthy flesh from Paine'i celery compound. It gives vigor to weak mothers and growing children robust and hearty. Nervous women, not actually sick, but never really well, who are a burden to thomseives as well as to others, find just the help their system craves to restore them to sound health and a happy frame of mind. Healthy color, animation, clear eyes and a well-filled out-frame, tho signs of health that never fail, come from the reasonable use of Paine's celery compound. It is peculiarly udaptod to correcting tho depressing effect on the system of long hours of hard, trying work in the echool room, behind tho store countor, in the office, and wherever there is constant strain on the norvous and physical system.
