Valley-Moundridge. Chase and Rolla in the No. spots going into the final week of the regular season for Kansas high school football teams. The top-rated teams are favored to retain their high rankings through this week's bled schedule and move on into the state championship playoffs. Most teams play Wednesday night this week because the annual convention of the state's largest teacher organization, Kansas-National Education Association, is scheduled at Wichita Thursday and Friday.

Some games were scheduled Tuesday night and some are through the remainder of the week. Shawnee Mission South, the No. 1 team in consensus ratings for 5A, has a state playoff spot cinched. Dodge City, the No. team in and Kapaun-Mt.

Carmel. the top-rated team in 3A. also have cinched playoff spots. The concensus ratings are based on picks made by the Topeka Capital, the Wichita Eagle, the Kansas City Star and the Harris Newspaper group. Here are the top five teams in each classification and their opponents this week: 5A 1.

Hutchinson Community Junior College announced Tuesday it has forfeited ail basketball victories and awards the team won last season. The announcement followed the revelation that Hutch star Rudy Jackson had never graduated from his New York high school and the Missouri Valley Conference had declared him ineligible. Jackson sparked the Hutchinson club to a 29-4 record and a runner-up finish in the national junior college tournament here last April. He had transferred to Wichita State University but also will be ineligible to participate there. A.

H. Elland, president of the Hutchinson school, and Athletic Director Sam Butterfield in a' news conference distributed copies of letters announcing the forfeiture. Carmel, Valley Center and Ottawa have playoff berths reserved. In 2A, Moundridge and svilie have playoff berths cinched. In lA, Sts. Peter Paul, White City, Quinter and Udall have playoff spots. Scandia, Lucas, and Rolla are sure of playoff berths in eight-man competition.

In Shawnee Mission West can get one of the remaining spots with a victory over Lawrence. In the other region, the winner of the Wichita North- Wichita Southeast game will earn a playoff spot, with Wichita West and Topeka in the running for the second position. Wmd and Turner are in competition for one of the remaining spots; Great Bend and Salina for another, and Derby, Carroll and City for the remaining position. Shawnee Heights, Effingham and Clay Center are in the running lor a 3.A berth. P'ort Scott and Columbus are competition for another.

The winner of the game between Osawatomie and Paola will get the remaining spot. Nemaha Valley, Frankfort and Beloit are in the running for the two district spots in 2A. EUinwood. WaKeeney, Cimarron and Plainville are seeking the District II spots. Kiowa and Conway Springs are battling for right to join Moundridge as representatives of District III.

Northeast of Spring Hill and Lyndon are seeking the right to join Wellsvilie in representing Dis-' trict IV. Ashland and Wheatland are in the running to join Quinter in District II of lA. he helped his team rack up a Tri-Valley League title with a 14-0 win over Humboldt. Gill was credited with 10 tackles and 19 as.sists. Greg Shireman, Uniontown, displayed extreme versatility again in a 26-21 victory over Central Heights.

Shireman had 54 yards rushing and two touchdowns, 108 yards on pass receptions, 11 unassisted tackles, 13 assisted tackles and a fumble recovery. David Palmer, Arkansas City, and Mike Stringer, Hutchinson, staged what must have been one of the finest punting duels in Kansas this season as Arkansas City took a 14-6 win Thursday night. Palmer averaged 42,2 yards on five punts, while Stringer averaged 41.6 yards on six punLs. The toe of Dennis Hudley, Junction City, was important as Junction City clinched a state 4A playoff spot with a 16-15 victory over Salina Central. Hudley kicked a 41-yard field goal, added a conversion and was his team's leading rusher with 47 yards on 15 carries.

Other outstanding performances included: Dennis Old, Topeka, completed 6 of 10 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns, rushed 16 times for 27 yards and one touchdown, and punted once for 37 yards in a 21-14 win over Shawnee Mission North. Brian Wahlmeier completed 7 of 13 passes for 169 yards and four touchdowns and rushed 18 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns in 46-20 victory over Bogue. Bob Gibson, McPherson, had 13 solo tackles and 5 assists and rushed 17 times for. 77 yards in 14-25 loss to Manhattan. Kent Marconnet, Dighton, had 14 tackles and nine assists, rushed 18 times for 96 yards, and passed for the winning time victory over Ness City.

Bob wagoner, Argonia, rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns in -20-8 Central of Burden. Gary Graves, Lindsborg-, carried 11 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns and had 10 tackles in 36-6 win over Inman.
