Coffin, 84, a prominent supporter of St. Xavier Academy in Chicago and a longtime resident of La Grange and Hinsdale, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Brighton Gardens of Burr Ridge.

Born in Chicago, Mrs. Coffin took a strong interest in St. Xavier Academy, an institution run by the Sisters of Mercy at 49th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. She was the president of the academy's Mother's Club and president of St. Francis Xavier Women's Club of La Grange as well as president of the Nazareth Academy Mothers Club.

Her commitments also extended to LaRabida, where she was a volunteer. "She was a very practical woman who was devoted to her family and her friends," said her daughter, Patricia Dando. Mrs. Coffin was an avid golfer and a longtime member of South Shore Country Club and La Grange Country Club. "She always went the extra mile for her family, which always was first for her," her daughter said.

Mrs. Coffin is also survived by two other daughters, Carole Clark and Joan Kilanowski; a son, Thomas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Benzies. A memorial mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in Chapel of Bethlehem Woods, 1515 W. Ogden La Grange Park.

GeroldA. Hoff Gerold A. Hoff, 72, a former tool and die maker whose mathematical skills allowed him to become a tool engineer, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the Itasca home he built 46 years ago. Born in Chicago, Mr.

Hoff was raised in the city's Kelvyn Park neighborhood. As a young adult, he learned of the housing shortage caused by returning World War II soldiers. "'We moved to our second apartment near Belmont and Central and had to pay $250 under the table just to rent the apartment," said his wife of 51 years, Irene. An industrious man, Mr. Hoff intended to own a home and looked hard at Itasca, where he contracted the building of a house, his wife said.

"He did much of the work himself. He was a very hard-working man," his wife said. "Our house in Itasca was the only real home he had." Mr. Hoff was an engineer with The Pyle National a firm that once operated on Chicago's West Side. "'He also started and was the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 405 in Itasca," his wife said.

Among Mr. Hoff's interests were golf and travel, including a recent trip to Norway. "He was an extraordinary family man," she said. One of Mr. Hoff's former Scouts, who went on to become an Eagle Scout, will deliver the eulogy at services.

Mr. Hoff is also survived by two sons, Randal and Jeffrey; a daughter, Cynthia; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday i in The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Itasca, and from 9:30 until services at 10:30 a.m.

Reher, 85, a 70-year resident of Downers Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Beacon Hill Retirement Community in Lombard. Born in Chicago, Mr. Reher served in the Army during World War II and was a supervisor for nearly 45 years at Western Electric Co. Survivors include two sons, Dennis John; a daughter, Mary Jane Reher; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Adams-Winterfield Funeral Home, 4343 Main Downers Grove, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church, Prairie Avenue and Douglas Road, Downers Grove. Julia Silerzio Julia Silerzio, 82, an Elmhurst homemaker whose exceptional sewing skills produced quilts that were cherished by friends, died Tuesday, Sept.

26, in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Silerzio also was an accomplished gardener, yet is remembered more for the friendship she extended to friends. "She was a genuine person, a Rock of Gibraltar to a lot of people," said her daughter, Paula. "She was very creative, sewing clothes and other items that she gave away as gifts.

She always cared about people." Mrs. Silerzio is also survived by a son, Michael; two grandchildren; a sister, Olga Hikido; and a niece. Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Elmhurst, with mass at 9:30 a.m.

in Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York Elmhurst. Richard Zoellick Richard Zoellick, 89, a Roselle resident for 48 years and a dairy farmer who once operated 168 acres along Lake Street in Addison, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. "He and partners ran a dairy farm from 1952 to 1970 on Lake Street, right where the funeral home is now," said Mr.

Zoellick's wife of 63 years, Pauline. Mr. Zoellick also was a volunteer firefighter with the Bloomingdale Fire Department and was a custodian for 13 years with Roselle School District 12. Mr. Zoellick was born in Arlington Heights.

Other survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Engelking; two sons, Richard and Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 19 great -grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Alma Zoellick. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake Addison, and from 9:30 until services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1116 Devon Bartlett.
