"THEN AND NOW" Ruth (Winkler) Plazo Ruth passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. She was born on March 28, 1931 in Salem, Ohio to parents Albert and Anna Winkler who emigrated to the United States from East Prussia. Ruth began playing piano at age eight and went on to become an extremely accomplished organist and classical pianist.

She graduated from Kent State University in 1953. That same year she married Paul Plazo on the day after Christmas. Paul passed away in 1995. Ruth loved to write cards and letters and corny poetry to all of her friends and family. She was always in tune with current political news and events.

She was a voracious reader of fiction and mysteries and was a master at crossword puzzles. She loved classic and early sci-fi movies, Masterpiece Theater, NCIS, and of course, her beloved NBA. She remained a faithful supporter of LeBron James even after he left the Cavaliers. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and son, Charles. Ruth is survived by sons, Daniel (Michele) and Benjamin (Kathy); daughters, Mary and Elizabeth; and grandson, Corey Packard.

Thanks to the extended Plazo family and to all of our friends for your support. The family would also like to thank the Palliative Care Unit at City Hospital for their outstanding care of Ruth during her last days. There will be a remembrance mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1580 Brown Street, Akron, on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the humane society of your choice.

Priscilla was a grad from The University of Akron and received her Masters from Catholic University and was a member of St. Hilary Church, where she taught Catechism for over 20 years. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority where she held positions with the local and national chapters. Retirement years were busy with hosting tea parties for her sorority, St.

Vincent reunions, working at Miss Molly Tea Room, travel, music, dancing, cooking, and her annual trip to Williamsburg, Va. Preceded in death by her parents, Bruno and Ann Pouser, she is survived by cousins, Doug, Phil, John, Joe Zanko, Victor James; Godchild, Heidi James; and beloved friend, Jim. Hilary Catholic Church. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery. FUNERAL HOMES Fairlawn, 330-836-3100 John R. Recny WADSWORTH John R. Recny of Wadsworth Ohio passed away peacefully the morning of February 16, 2013, at Altercare of Wadsworth nursing home.

He was 91 Born in Ford City, Pennsylvania, Mr. Recny moved to Wadsworth in 1962. He worked as an accountant for the Ohio Match Company in Wadsworth, NRM in Akron, and Midwest Rubber in Barberton. A loving husband and father, he was married in 1952 to the late Jenny (Kania) Recny, who Continued next column From previous column Service in Korea, he and JeaneAnn moved to Green and he went to work for Coca Cola of Akron as a salesman then as a manager, retiring at age 59. One of his biggest moments was playing five minutes against Los Angeles Rams in a charity football game while he was in the service.

With his love of football and baseball he coached Green peewee for many years where he had one undefeated season. He also coached baseball for many years with six championships. He was inducted into the Green Youth Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of American Legion (Post 548). He loved euchre, poker, going to casinos and fishing.

He missed his buddy Duke (border collie). They both had a hard time walking. His beloved pets Molly, Max, Reba and Shiloh will miss him. He was a kind gentle man with a big heart, he loved to tell jokes. He always said that he never met a stranger.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Doctor Penvose, Doctor Decoy and the staff of CCU at Mercy Medical Center. Also, thank you to our families for the support through Dave's illness. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10 a.m.

at St. Louis Catholic Parish with Rev. Fr. Larry Frient celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.

She was born on October 31, 1931 in Wellsboro, Pa. to Robert and Olive (Moran) McCool. A resident of Wads-worth, Margaret had been employed by Islay's Restaurant, S.S. Kresge in Norton, K-Mart in Wadsworth, and had sold Home Interior. She was a member of the former First Assembly of God in Wadsworth and had attended the Barberton Friends Church.

Margaret enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower gardens and spending time with her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walker L. Messer; step-sons, Aubrey and Arnold Messer; she is survived by her children, Ron (Holly) Messer of Norton, Shah Messer of Wadsworth; stepson, Fred (Edwina) of Ashville, N.C.; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Messer-Schreiber of Leicester, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Matheny of Wadsworth; many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Leppert Robert D. Leppert, passed away February 2013. He was the beloved band of Bet 84, 15, hus- ty and father of Julie (Dave) a a Ann (Scott) Ross, and Dale (Janet) and son, Randy Foster) Leppert. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Jillian and Miranda, (children of Curtis Parham), Jackson, Adelaide, and Levi Ross. He is also lovingly survived by his sister, Jean Cotten and brother, Bill (Pat) Leppert.

After retirement from the City of Cuyahoga Falls as Building Maintenance Superintendent, Bob loved to work in his workshop and on projects around the house. He was an excellent carpenter and craftsman, and especially enjoyed working with Dale on a property they rehabbed in the neighborhood. He also worked at State Road Shopping Center for over 15 years as Maintenance Supervisor. Cremation has taken place and a family service will be held later. To honor his wishes, the family asks that no floral or monetary tributes be made.

330-745-3311 "Together Again" Eleanor Nance Lynn "White Child" aka "Pistol Packing Granny" Eleanor Nance Lynn "White Child" aka "Pistol Packing Granny" entered the gates of heaven February 12, 2013 at Hospice Care Center. She was born April 16, 1929 to the late Molly and Mitchell Nance. She lived in Youngs-town for 12 years before relocating to the Akron area, where she resided for 25 years. She worked as a cook, barmaid, and bus driver. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Eleanor was a devoted mother, aunt and grandmother that loved cooking her famous collard greens and strawberry cake, fishing, bingo, playing cards, and spending time with the apple of her eye Erik Maclin Jr. Her genuine love made many love her unconditionally, despite the mishaps in life. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lynn, brothers, John and Robert Nance, sisters, Vera Clemmons and Velma Walker, son, Handsome Ayers, Jr. and daughter, Ouida Nawassa. Pidcoe Gaynelle Frances Pidcoe, age 85, died February 6, 2013. She was born October 24, 1927 in We ru Pa. to the late Robert I. and Blanche E. Pidcoe.

After graduating from Canton (Pa.) High School in 1945, she moved to Akron and was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until her retirement in 1986. Gay was an active member of the Family of Faith United Methodist Church and assisted in many church programs, most notably, the church's Free Lunch program. She was an accomplished artisan with a collection of doll houses she furnished with her hand made items. Surviving are her brothers, Robert Pidcoe of Muncy Valley, Pa. and Paul Pidcoe of Canton, sisters, Janet Pidcoe of Akron, Gladys Pidcoe of Canton, Pa.

and Linda Shears of Lakeville, Ohio; cousins, nieces, nephews and good friend, Nancy Cunningham. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Maida (Robert) Chaney of Millers-burg. Pittman passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the age of 57. Born on Sept. 9, 1955, in Akron, Ohio, Derrick was the youngest son born to Frank and Mary Pittman, Jr. He graduated from Gar field High School in 1974 and earned the acclaimed title of "district champion" of high hurdles in track and field.

From high school he then went on to pursue and earn a degree in accounting. He moved to California 34 years ago to pursue one of his other passions, playing the saxophone in his band. He resided in San Bernadino, Calif, until his death. She was a former member of St. Bernard, Immaculate Heart, and Holy Family Parishes. Florence married the love of her life at 16 years of age. Other than working in the secretarial field for a few years, most of her life was spent as a housewife and mother. She especially treasured spending time with her grand and great grand-children in later years, when she had nothing but time to truly enjoy them.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, to whom she was married for 64 years, sisters, Elizabeth Milla and Catherine Gardiner, brother, George Schwelinger, and nephew, Bobby Gardiner. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Smith of Stow, Marianne (G.R.) Whited of Hudson, Susan (Dave) Crews of Stow, Bob-bi Brown of Akron, and Lisa Morran (Ron Ramacciato) of Mayfield grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Weiss, Jeff (Erika) Smith, Lauren Smith (Anna Guzdar), Paul (Jen) Whited, Sara Whited (Rob Van Waes), Joe Whited (Monica Greenwell), Matthew Brown, Josh and Jaden Crews, and Nicholas Ramacciato; greatgrandchildren, Zack, Sam, and Claire Weiss, Samantha, Jordan, Olivia Whited, and Antionio and Kayla Greenwell; nieces and their families, Barbara (Donald) Majdanik, Marilyn (John) Argenio, Edith (Robert) Schaaf, and Kathy Gary; Jack's nephew, Terry (Carol) Stevison. Mary Lou devoted her life to helping others, as a teacher and as a Volunteer. A founding member of Hudson Community Service Association, Mary Lou dedicated herself to public service for over 60 years, assisting those in need, touching the hearts of thousands with care and understanding. He was such a blessing to those of us privileged to know and love him. Bob served in the U.S. Army in Ger many during Korea and was a member of The Chapel. Before his graduation in 1958 from The University of Akron, Bob joined Firestone Tire in race tire development. He was instrumental in propelling Firestone into its glory years as the leader in Indianapolis and Formula One Racing from the mid 1950's into the 1970's.

He developed the tires that Art Arfons used to drive his "Green Monster" to the land-speed record in 1964. After leaving Firestone, Bob continued to work in motor racing in Europe until his retirement in 1994. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, O'Leary and Florence Martin and sister, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Steven (Dana), Laura (Tim) Peters, Larry (Sandra) and Emily (Richard) Sanderson; grandchildren, Keith, Jessica, Patrick, Chelsea, Francine, Gabrielle, Grace, Sarah, Ava, Tess, Brianna, Thomas, Reese; and brother, Dick (Judy). Born and raised in Akron, on December 16th, 1930, he passed away Saturday evening February 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. Preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Nick and Edna Deneff and first wife of 30 years, JeaneAnn (Hersek).

Survived by his wife and best friend, Tina (Procario) after celebrating their 15th anniversary on Valentine's Day; daughters, Kim (David) Enoch of Tennessee and Michelle Gaskins of Akron; son, Daniel (Katherine Wells) of Texas; stepdaughter, Theresa Leary (John Berring, Jr) of Homeworth; stepsons, Steve (Angel) Leary of Louisville and Joe (Stacey) Leary of Magnolia. David and Tina truly enjoyed their 15 grandchildren, (Tara, Breck, Kelley, Eric, Gabe, Emmerson, Addison, Zachary, Kayla, Austin, Morgan, Ashlee, Miley, Trina, Tristyn); great-grandchildren, (Bearrett, Peyton); and many nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law. At 17, David left high school to join the Navy, spending 10 years in the service with the Navy and Marines as a medic in the Korean War.
