September 26, 1931, aged 69 years and two days. Jle attended the public schools at Wyoming, and the academy at Toulon, 111., from which he graduated in 1881. For three years after graduation he had "charge of one of his father's elevators which was located at Lincoln, Neb. From here he went to Cedar Rapids, where ne had charge of a wholesale" cigar factory with a retail store in connection. Here he remained for seven years.

In 1900 he was bookkeeper for the International Harvester company at Cedar Rapids, and on October 12 of that year he was married to Miss Margaret Byerly, also of Cedar Rapids. To this union were born four children Willard J. and Elizabeth Mrs. J. K.

Johnston) of Huron, S. Katherine (Mrs. Elmer Olson) of Sioux Falls, S. and LaVonne of Tyndall, S. D.

Besides, these he is survived by one brother, Cassius, of Peoria, and two grandchildren. Robert and June Johnston of Huron, S. D. In 1901 Mr. and Mrs.

Brockway moved to a farm at Wyoming, 111., where they lived for 12 years. They moved to Carthage, S. D. May 4, 1912. In October of that year they moved to Sioux Falls, but remained only a few months, returning to Carthage on June 6, 1913, where they have resided ever since, and where Mr.

Brockway has been engaged in the stock business practically all the time. Abput three years ago his health began to fail and he has been gradually declining since that time. Mr. Brockway was a member of the Odd Fellows and of th.e Muscovites of Carthage. He was initiated in Redstone Lodge No, 102 October 2, 1918, passsd to a Fellow Craft March 31, 1920, and raised a master Mason, June 23, In 1921 IB was admitted to the Shrine at Sioux Falls and on September 21, 1922 to the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite fay the Oriental consistory at Yankton.

This membership was continuous until his death Also he was a member of the Woodmen lodge, the Eastern. Star and the tebekahs. On December 21, 1919 he united with the Congregational church in Carthage and has remained -a member ever since. Mr. Brockway's home life was beau- ifuL His home was like heaven to him.

is delighted in his children who never failed fo add cheer to his life. The city of Carthage will miss him. He was prom- nent in its councils and took an active interest in everything that promised to promote its best advantage. Although le will be greatly missed, yet his memory will be cherished with respect and affection by his many friends. After a brief service at the home, the funeral, in charge of Rev.

S. E. Cooper, was held from the Congregational church in Carthage. Interment was at Pleasant View cemetery where the Masonic ritual was conducted by Mr. L.

Ollie Lewcllen and Mr. and, Mrs. Chester Geiver were to leave Monday for a two weeks' visit at the Vcrn Lewellen home at Goshen, Ind. A farewell party was given at the Elmer Whitney home in Buffalo county Monday evening. They expect to leave soon to make their home in Missouri.

John Parmley of Harlington, has been visiting at the Dearborn home in Pleasant Valley township. Milk cows sold at the Whitney farm sale for $25 per head. at Brookings this year. De' Van Zee is attending school at Centerville, la. Miss Mable Mehan, who is teaching school south of Ree Heights, spent weekend at home.

Within three days Chris was alono in the apartment, Dorothy's trunk packed and gone and Dorothy herself on a westbound train. Three days more and Norma's dresses hung in the vacated closet space. Norma had not been eager to move but Chris had explained it as a favor to herself. She could not keep up the rent alone, shs said. If Norma would not come' she would have to give up the apartmsnt.

For a while things appeared to so better after that. Less strain for Chris in trying to see that Norma was occupied. No need for constantly manufacturing excuses to include the other girl in her plans. It was easier to see that Norma had substantial meals. There were days when Chris told herself Norma 'was happier but they sure to be followed by periods depression.

They never talked about the future and as time passed Norma said less and less about Mark. A photograph in the Press one evening informed them that Mr. and Mrs. F. M.
