News notes from here and there Rockford By JULIE ROOT The G. T. Club met at Esther Huls' with eight members present. The afternoon was spent playing pitch, with Betty Root having high prize and Gretchen Gingery having low prize. A dessert lunch was served.

Last Saturday, Tammy Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Phillips, attended DeDe Donovoe's birthday party at Wymore. A number of people from this area took part in the twelve- hour prayer vigil at the Church of the near HolmesviUe. Mrs.

Marion Root visited Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jenkins, Wymore. Saturday, Mr. and Mrs.

Don Linsenmeyer, Wymore, accompanied Janet Phillips and her two'daughters on a business trip to Lincoln. Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart Hofeling visited Mr. and Mrs.

Ralph Larsen and family, Linberty. Ruth Acton and Eleanor Sdhlake, Blue Springs, are participating in the lingerie class taught by Judy Ripp at the Courthouse, Beatrice. Shopping in Lincoln recently were Betty Root and Irene Janssen. Mr. and Mrs.

Dwight Dell attended the Farmer's Union Annual Meeting at Beatrice Saturday evening. Terry Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Phillips, received his Wolf Badge in Cub Scouts. He belongs to Pack 223 of Beatrice.

Attending the Washington Dinner at the Masonic Temple, Beatrice, Saturday evening were Edgar Burroughs and his son, DaUias, Beatrice. Their wives and-little James had dinner at a Beatrice restaurant. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hays and Janice, Millard, were weekend guests of her parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Alvin Johnsen. On Sunday they all attended the golden wedding anniversary open house of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Johnsen at the Zion Lutheran Church.

Dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. Chris Meints, Beatrice, were Mr. and Mrs. Brune Meints. Mr.

and Mrs. Fred Acton, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Schlake; Blue Springs, and Mr. and Mrs.

Alva Fisher, Blue Springs, attended the Farmers Union Annual Meeting in Beatrice Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Johnsen were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs.

Larry'Remmers, Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Brune Meints attended Mr. and Mrs.

Roy Crook's 50th wedding anniversary open house at tihe Methodist Church, Beatrice. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gingery entertained at their home Sunday with a covered dish dinner in honor of their 25th anniversary. The serving table was accented with a three tiered wedding cake which was flanked by blue candles, fhe floral centerpiece contained blue carnations, white and white mums and was graced by candelabra.

Refreshments were served in the afternoon. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gingery, Kathy Gingery, Mr. and Mrs.

Don Gingery and family, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Gingery, Mrs. Ada Yoder, Mr. and Mrs.

Leta Dell was hostess of the Women's Fellowship of the Church of the Brethren near Holmesville. They had a covered dish dinner at the home of Mabel Shaffer, Beatrice. Mr. and Mrs. Lenhart Fritzen attended a card party at the Raymond Wiese home, Filley, recently.

Suiday evening visitors at the Andrew Janssen home, Adams, were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Janssen. Mrs. Marion Root and Juile traveled to Lincoln recently.

Dinner guests recently of the Wayne Zimmerman's were Mrs. Emma Zimmerman, Beatrice, and Mrs. Lena Liehemann, Adams. Recently, Theresa Johnsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Leonard Johnsen, celebrated her eleventh birthday. Her guest was Sharon Rickman, Crab Orchard. Edgar Burroughs and his granddaughter, Penny Sue Phillips, visited Mr. and Mrs. Berwin Sharffer, Beatrice, recently.

The John Jurgens family were Sunday afternoon visitors of Mrs. Etta Dorn, Beatrice. Recent evening visitors at the Don Frase home, Beatrice, were Mr. and Mrs. Elden Friedemann and family.

Weekend guests at the Brune Meints home were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emerson and family, Columbus. Dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs.

Virgil Dahl, Washington, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dell were in Las Vegas and last week. They returned Sunday with Mrs.

Dell's mother, Mrs. Martha Baer. Recent evening guests of Mrs. Mabel Meints, Beatrice, were Mr. and Mrs.

In the afternoon they accompanied them to Lincoln. Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Ranken Leners celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Their children helped them.

James Callander, Arvada, who had been on a trip through the south stopped for a short visit here with her sister, Mrs. Sybil Harper, Hhe forepart of the week. The Callanders visited with a cousin, Wanneta Reed, at an Indian Mission in Oklahoma. Then on into Missouri at Pleasant Hill and on into Kansas City to visit an aged aunt. At Topeka they visited Mr.

and Mrs. Homer Reed before coming to Oketo and on back to Arvada, Colo. Mrs. Garth Howes and Mrs. Forrest Johnson took part in the "World Day of Prayer" at the Methodist Church, Marys- vdlle, recently.

Several other members of the WSCS also were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schneider and children, Brett, Susie, and Rachel, Auburn, spent Sunday with his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Young.

They also called at the Robert Young and Gerold Helmer homes enroute to fiheir home. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Middleton and daughter, Peru, spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. annd Mrs.

Roy Outhet. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peach, Independence, came recently and visited until Sunday evening with his grandmother, Mrs. AdolpJi Peach, Connie Young and Laura Hellmer members of the Forensic Class at MarysvilJe High School, accompanied the class to Wamego, to a meeting and the Marysville class won second place trophy.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Klein, Blue Rapids, were Sunday afternoon callers at the home of Albert Brenzikofer. Recently, Mrs. John Pribyl spent the afternoon with Maggie Jurgens.

Sunday afternoon callers of Mrs. Arnie Gibson were her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ermon Gibson and daughter, Washington, Kan. Larry Remmers reported to the Beatrice Lutheran Hospital on Saturday for a checkup.

Now he is able to be on crutches part time. Mr. and Mrs. Gerold Hellmer, Mr. and Mrs.

Robert Young drove to Clay Center, for the Regional basketball tournament. Marysville' won third place. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Eastwood, Liberty and Mr.

and Mrs. E. H. Triggs, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Arlan Argo and family. Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schneider and Mr. and Mrs.

Gerold Hellmer and Annette accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bottiger to Robinson, to attend a Melodrama there. It was well rendered and the group enjoyed the entertainment. Several ladies from this vicinity attended a Bridal Shower for Mary Goodwin, Asctell, bride- elect of Dennis Brooks at the Peterson home, Axtell.

She received many useful and lovely gifts. The Community Card Parfy held at the City Hall Sunday evening was well attended, Cards were played at 17 tables, refreshments were served at ffl.e close of the evening. The Robert Youngs, Joe Bottigers, Milan Rutti and Leroy Heiser- mans were in charge of refreshments. Mrs. Maggie Jurgens reported that the "Red Stocking Revue" given at the Beatrice City Auditorium by the Sertoma Club was well rendered and enjoyed.

Mr. and Mrs. Garth Howes drove to Manhattan Saturday morning and assisted with their granddaughter Cynthia Doebele's ninth birthday party for her little friends. Sunday Mr. and Mrs.

Doebele entertained Grandpa Doebele, and Mr. and Mrs. Garth Howes, also grandparents at a birthday dinner. Recently Allen Bottiger attended a Banker's Agriculture meeting in Manhattan, Saturday morning. Joe Bottiger also attended Che meeting and was a guest of his daughter, Ellen, at Putnam Hall for Father's Week.

Mr. and Mrs. George Cook entertained Mr. and 'Mrs. Roy Outhet and Jiminie Prebyl Sunday evening for supper.

Later Mr. and Mrs. Roger Middleton and daughter, Linda Cook, and Jerry Gibson, spent the evening there. On Sunday Mrs. Herbert Krous entertained a family group at a birthday honoring her sister, Mrs.

Charles Alves. Other guests were Mrs. Perry Watson; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Richardson and children, Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Prebyl and family, Topeka. Also AT3 Gary Prebyl, home on leave, who will return to Millington, where he is in school. The Jolly Janes Bridge Club met with Mrs. Clifton Warren, Home, and members from here attended.

Mrs. Hugh Bowes, Beatrice, visited Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Carl Naaf. Mr. and Mrs.

Orval Lohse, Bremen, visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs; Phil Foust and children. Mrs. Joe Reed and daughter, Topeka, were weekend guests of her brother, Raymond Fincham, and famify. On Sunday the group drove to Bremen and spent the day with a sister, Mrs.

Lawrence Johnson, and her husband and family. On Sunday, Bill Landen drove to Marysville, and visited with his mother, Mrs. Rosa Landon. Joe and Allen Bottiger, Bill Hellmer, and Charles Downie, are attending Physical Education classes at Marysville. Mr.

and Mrs. Garth Howes drove to Beatrice on Sunday and spent the day visiting Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Litten. Mr.

and Mrs. Arnold Hill, Seattle, spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Otis Huff. Mr.

and Mrs. Phil Foust and family visited with relatives at Dexter, recently. On Saturday morning, Mrs. Charles Alves and Mrs. Herbert Krous drove to Topeka, and were houseguests of Mr.

and Mrs. Milton. Richardson over the weekend. They also visited at the Robert Prebyl home with' AT3 Gary Prebyl, who has just graduated from "Avonics Course" in the Service and is home on a two week furlough. Mr.

and Mrs. Holmes, Independence, Mr. and'Mrs. Kenneth Peach and children, Emporia, Mr. and Mrs.

Noah Peach, Cottonwoods Falls, were here over the weekend with their mother, Mrs. Viola Peach, who had returned to her home here and will remain for a while. Danny Akin, Mgr. of the Oketo Elevator sponsored a free supper at the City Hall, recently for his customers. Mr.

Bob Mordn, Manhattan, was the speaker of the evening introducing "Geigy About 64 men enjoyed the good supper and a nice evening together. Albert" Brenzikofer visited Sunday afternoon in Blue Rapids with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kline. Mr.

and Mrs. Bud Huff -enjoyed a visit recently with relatives at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Pohlman, Marysville. On Saturday evening the relatives of the Gerold Heltaer's all attended the Homecoming basketball game and the school dance at the Marysville High School and the crowning of the queen.

Laura Hellmer was one of the queen contestants but Jenr Arnold, Marysville, won the honor. After the festivities at Marysville the entire group came to the Gerold Hellmer home, Oketo, and celebrated the 47th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harve Hellmer. Those attending the celebration were, Mr.

One of the many highlights of her trip was a birthday dinner party honoring her on February 6, in the Jack Aasen home, arranged by her family, with all of the above named present. The birthday cake was baked and decorated by her daughter, Marilyn Frey. During her stay in Colorado, she enjoyed many dinners and sightseeing trips, tours, and entertainment. These included a tour of the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Wax Museum, Heritage Square near Golden, a shopper's paradise where you step bade a century into the 1880's and where white gingerbread houses and tree- lined streets are to be seen; Cinderella City, another shoppers paradise; visits to the Colorado Academy, an independent college preparatory school where Jon Scott Aasen attends. women also featuring a madcap Barbershop quartet from Los Angeles, providing barbershop background music to oldtime movies they showed, and a writer's meeting at the University of Denver featuring a noted Colorado author, a friend and neighbor of Gloria Aasen, on Lookout Mountain; also sightseeing on drives including Wild Horse Circle in Pine Brook Halls and other mountain drives. John Snyder, Beatrice, Mr. and Mrs. Don Rosener, Superior, and Beulah Rosener, Fairbury, were Sunday dinner and afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Regnier, rural Fairbury.

Company for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Novotny recently were their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs." Bob Little and children, Lincoln. Sunday afternoon visitors of the Novotnys were Mr.

'and Mrs. Joe Macholan, Dorchester and their cousins. Henry Novotny, Ernest Novotny, Jeanne and Ronald Novotny, and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Brauch, attended funeral services for Ben Novotny at Vance's Chapel, Odell, Saturday afternoon.

Interment was made in the Odell Czech cemetery at Odell. The deceased was a cousin of Henry and Ernest Novotny. Mrs. Louis Scheele accompanied Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Roseman to the funeral services for Mrs. Wm. (Caroline) Lampe 71, of recently at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Washington, Kan. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Mrs.

Lampe died just three years to the day, and almost to the hour, after'the death of her husband, Wm. who died on February 22, 1969. She is survived by three married children, seven grandchildren and three brothers, Louis Scheele, Diller, August Scheele, Galveston, Texas, and Harry Scheele, Marion, Iowa. Louis Scheele was unable to attend" his sister's funeral services because of poor health. He was eared for by Mrs.

Minnie Weers and Mrs. Anna Blackwood during his wife's absence at the memorial rites. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scheele, Marion, Iowa, were Saturday morning visitors in the Louis Sdieele home.

They had come to Washington, for the funeral rites of Mrs. Caroline Lampe, sister of the Scheele brotherss, and were enroute home. New residents in Diller are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Keuten who have moved into the former Harvey Carrel's property which they recently purchased.

Mr. and Mrs. William Cordry and three children have taken up residence in the Jake Lottman property on Hilton Street. They moved to Diller from Hardy. Dr.

and Mrs. Lorin Wolff, Fremon, were visitors in the home of Mr. Mrs. Jake Lottman, parents of Mrs. Wolff, for a few days.

Dr. Wolff, former pastor of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Diller, now is minister to the St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Fremont. The Wolfs also visited Mrs.

Wolff's brother and family; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lottman and Douglas. They enjoyed the fish fry at Bud and Virginia's recently. Members and sponsors of the Diller United Youth Fellowship attended the motion picture "The Cross and tine Switch' blade" at Fairbury recently.

Those who went were: Pastor and Mrs. Eugene Bock, Douglas and Becky, Mr. anc Mrs. Harry Kisling, Dean and Lois Engelman, David anc Brian Barnard, Douglas, Greg and Brad Schnuelle, Bobby Jones, Danny Keefover, Sandy Craig, Ktm Brown and Joyce Scherling. Richard.

Brown is still confined in the Mennonite Hospital Beatrice, Mrs. Brown visited him Sunday afternoon. Eighteen juniors of the Diller Community High Schoool anc their sponsor, Allen Porkorney participated in the annual Jefferson County Government day at Fairbury recently. Mr. and Mrs.

Lorren Stephens were Sunday noon dinner guests of their daughter and family, the Gerald Jurgens, Wymore. The Diller Dist. 103 Community School caucus recently was well attended. Presiding was Roger Kisling with Lofing as secretary. Twelve men were nominated- three declining.

The names of all of the nominees who' sign certificates within five days will appear on the primary ballot Anyone else wishing to be a candidate may file before March 10. Filing forms are available at the office of Stanley C. Crawshaw, Supt. of Diller schools. Mr.

and Mrs. Dwight Weigel Millard, were Sunday noon dinner guests of Mrs. Cora Weigel, mother of Dwight. The visitors drove to Beatrice after dinner to attend the golden wedding anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs.

loy Crook, Mrs. Crook is the aunt of Mrs. D. Weigel. Mrs.

Fred Hauver entered the fefferson County Memorial Hospital, Fairbury for treatment. She was taken there by her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jones and Mrs.

Perry Weaver visited Mrs. Hauver Sunday svening. Sunday afternoon and evening quests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Easiley were: Mr.

Clark celebrate his birthday. Mrs. Bill Baumfalk accompanied her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lottman, rural Beatrice, to DeWitt Sunday and spent the day with Robert Lottman.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lillie and family, Lincoln, enjoyed a visit with Mr. Baumfalk. Mr.

and Mrs. Gary Scheele, Steve and Todd, Superior, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Behrends, Lincoln, were weekend guests of r. and Mrs.

Bernard Behrends. Mrs. William Bernhardt and Mrs. Fred Miller ware in Diller visiting Mr. and Mrs.

Roy Roelfs, Mrs. Bernhardt called on Mrs. S. Miller. Mrs.

RaJph Specht, who entered the Fairbury Hospital for treatment on Sunday was able to return home the following week. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Specht and family, Fairbury, were Sunday afternoon and evening meal guests of and Mrs. Ralph Specht.
