It marked the third time in Lawrence's career that he THE EAST I in Nation Oldest Series THE EAST has topped the 200-yard mark. His best effort was against Virginia in 1977 when he raced for 286 yards. "North Carolina handled said Saban.

"We couldn't block them, we couldn't stop them, it was a rough deal. They get an A-plus, plus Lawrence." Lawrence gained 108 yards in the second quarter, building the Tar Heels toward their 20-3 halftime lead. In his previous two games this season, Lawrence had gained a total of 210 yards on 45 carries. At Philadelphia, senior Mark Schubert, who missed a 26-yard attempt earlier in the fourth quarter, kicked a 46-yard field goal with 3:53 to play to give Pittsburgh a hard-fought 10-9 victory over Temple. The Panthers (2-1) had blown two scoring opportunities in the final period after Temple's Ron Fioravanti had given the Owls a 9-7 lead with a 44-yard field goal, his third of the game, late in the third quarter.

But the Panthers, on their third possession of the quarter, finally got the go-ahead point, moving from their 44 to the Temple 30 with the help of strong running by fullback Randy McMillan. The Pitt defense held the high-scoring, previously unbeaten Owls (3-1) without a touchdown and their lowest point total of the season. Temple quarterback Brian Broomell, the nation's lead passer going into the game, completed just 9 of 27 passes for 129 yards and had two intercepted. Princeton still leads the series, 53-16-1. Halfback Jim Quinn ran 6 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to earn New Hampshire a 10-10 tie with Dartmouth at Durham, N.H. Dartmouth led 10-0 when Art Illraan hit a 22-yard field goal midway through the third period. Lafayette defeated Columbia, 14-7, as junior tailback Ed Rogusky rushed for 106 yards, including two first-quarter touchdowns. The Lafayette defense stopped Columbia twice inside its 15-yard line in the fourth quarter of the game at Easton, Pa.

Lehigh scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, two of the touchdowns coming after fumble recoveries, and beat Pennsylvania, 31-7, at Bethlehem, Pa. Lehigh outgained Penn, 413 yards to 224, but only had a narrow 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. Cornell led Colgate by three points in the second quarter when Cornell's Mark Turley turned a screen pass into a 21-yard broken-field touchdown run. Cornell then scored 19 points in. the opening eight minutes of the third quarter and hung on to win, 36-21.

Colgate quarterback Tom Rosenfeld passed for 317 yards in his first start, at Ithaca, N.Y. Brown routed Rhode Island, 31-13, despite nine fumbles by Brown ballcarriers. John Rogan, the first starting Yale sophomore quarterback since Brian Dowling in 1966, threw touchdown passes of 39 and 62 yards to end Dan Stratton and ran for another touchdown in a 24-17 win over Connecticut at New Haven.

Yale has beaten UConn six straight times and leads the series, 28-3. Quarterback Mike McEvilly and flanker Kevin O'Connor hooked up on touchdown passes of 54 and 16 yards to spark Massachusetts to a 20-7 win over Harvard at Cambridge. Brown broke through the Falcon defense on the second play after the touchback to give K-State its second victory of the season against one loss. Brown finished with 200 yards rushing, setting a school single-game record. The previous KSU mark was 188 yards set by Corky Taylor in 1954. Roosevelt Duncan clinched the win for Kansas State on a 10-yard run over right end with 6:08 to go.

The Wildcats' first score came on a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Sheldon Paris at the 2:12 mark of the second quarter. The victory boosted KSU to 2-1 and broke a 10-game road losing streak. The Falcons dropped to 0-4 on the season and saw their losing streak extended to seven games.
